Xbox360 disc reading error

You chould check your disc, when you get that error, it means that the disc is unreadable, lol. Which means it cannot be read, so you can\'t play your game.

Check the back of the game disc for scratches or dust/other that shouldn\'t be there.

I've had the Xbox360 since it released in 2005, I've had the original, Pro and the Slim edition, but this have never happened.
Except! If there is a error, like if it can't read the disc or something. It could be, in worst case, that the laser reader (which reads the discs) is defect, or it might be dust on it.

You can try to open the disc tray and blow downwards into the xbox, because if there is dust or something like that on it, that might be what's stopping you from playing your games.

It may aswell be some glitch, so you can try to remove all cables (TV-connection, ethernet cable, power connection) and remove harddrive (DO NOT remove harddrive if it is the Xbox 360 Slim, that might corrupt files on the harddrive)).

First off I'd like to mention that what I post here does not condone piracy, merely reiterating information widely available already on the internet.

First off, your Xbox360 will not read pirated/backed up games if you have no made any modifications to it. Secondly, if your Xbox360 was bought in 2005 and you have not updated it to play on Xbox live, do not follow my advice here, look up the JTAG hack on google. This is more complex but it lets you do much much more with your Xbox360 and in a sense 'jailbreak's' it.

Regardless of what Xbox360 you have (old, 'slim', updated or not), you can enable it to play pirated/backed up games by flashing the DVD drive firmware with a custom firmware, the latest being the ixtreme LT+, with a software utility called Jungle Flasher. Do do this you need a computer with SATA capability and you need to take apart your XBOX. There are many good tutorials freely available online (best ones are from ixtreme.net) and there is enough info above to get you started.

If you are not comfortable with computers and/or taking apart your 360, I would not attempt any of this.

p.s. The latest ixtreme firmware does let you play your game copies on XboxLive without the risk of being banned, even when playing the latest 'protected' discs.

p.p.s I would also like to mention that while you may have purchased an Xbox360, in the U.S.A. you do not own the full rights to do whatever you want with that device (current exceptions only being made for mobile phones). So if you live there, customizing your Xbox360 in whatever way you see fit is illegal until further changes are made the DMCA.

it is a good thing that you clean the disc,is there any visible scratches on the game disc?, if none, please do try another disc game that is available,check if the other game disc will have the same error message if it does,unfortunately it is the console but if other game disc work it may do happen that this is a disc issue

This error is caused by not having the original DVD drive in your 360. Only a professional can change your DVD drive successfully. You will need the original DVD drive to fix this problem. Without the original drive your Xbox won't be playing disc based games again. A skilled professional with the original DVD drive should be able to fix your problem.

this happens to me also periodicly. just turn the console off and back on again. sometimes i have noticed that the position of the cd in the tray helps

It sounds like your DVD drive has failed, this is fairly common. There is a good chance it is still under warranty from microsoft. Give them a call at:

800-4-My-Xbox

If it is not under warranty you can replace the dvd drive itself, google xbox 360 replacement parts. It's not too difficult if you are technically inclined.

Try to use cd rom lens head cleaner, the one with the small brush at the middle of the disk, never use cleaner using liquid solution. the best cleaning method is to open the cd and clean manually the laser lens using a cotton buds, the lens are so delicate so don't apply too much force. you can easily locate the lens in the cd case, it is a round bluish lens. cd rom cleaner works best when your unit is clean!! Huhh? Run it once a day, regularly, its like sweeping the floor of your house before you work for that day. Cd rom cleaning depends on playing back the No 1 and jumps to no 3 tracks, cleaning takes place on track 2 of the disc, you cannot clean if you cannot play the unit.. get that?
