Onkyo SV828THX Power on

We have an Onkyo SV828THX Receiver, bought it used, plugged it in and when I pushed the power button, the only light we saw was the standby/received light under the power button, no display or red dot on power knob. Then took the top off and pushed in on two separate connectors on the power circuitry board and at that time we heard the CLICK. It powered on as it should. Now we went through this about 4 times after shutting it off, having to push down on the yellow & white wire connector. Now it works as it should. Can anyone tell me if it's safe, going bad, or a known problem with this model before I tear down my entire surround system in our living room to add this to our collection. Also when powering it on the fan attempts to turn but stops, does it only come on when the temp gets to a certain degrees.? Or should it run constantly? Thanks for any information that will get us up and running again!! Bo

There is or seems to be a bad or cold solder connection on that Printed circuit board that is going to need to be resoldered or it can cause more damage to the unit. And on this model, the fan will start at power up but shut down untill the output section heat sinks get hot.

Remote will no longer power on Onkyo HT-S3500. Once I turn it on manually, the rest of the functions work properly.

I just had this same issue. I tried to change the batteries for the factory remote that came with the Onkyo HT-S3500 (remote: RC-799M). Still no luck. It would not power on with the remote, despite the light flashing and the and all other remote function working. If I powered on the receiver manually, everything worked (except power on/off).
I just pushed a button on the remote labeled "REMOTE MODE RECEIVER" and viola, the remote now powers the device on and off and works just like usual. Not sure what the heck happened, but I would suggest pushing that button on your remote.

Hi,,My onkyo tx-sv828thx problem was it shows "protect" sometimes.then after 2 to 3 second its back to normal operation. What do you think the problem?can i do it by myself? anyway,i am using...

The protect message appears when the current powering an amplifier inside the receiver goes beyond the safety limit or the amplifiers overheat. So just check the wiring and the speakers impedance with an ohmmeter - each should be above 6 ohms
If they are lower then you have a short in one of the actual drivers of the Bose 901 speaker . If the impedance is OK then the Onkyo overheats, place it in a better position to increase the airflow thru it.

When i push power button clicks on immediately

I had this problem also and discovered an easy way to trick it into powering on: Click the power button, then within 1 second of the receiver powering off, click the power button again. The receiver should stay on this time. This works with both the button on the receiver and the remote control.
I would like to know what causes this problem and whether or not I should be concerned about damage being done. I assume this is a power protection. I haven't tried plugging this receiver into a different power socket to test, but I don't think the power plug is the problem. Note: I have the subwoofer plugged into the power plug on the back of the receiver.

Onkyo htr 330 universal remote codes

I have the HT-R570 Receiver and here's what I ended up doing to use the Verizon FIOS DVR remote to turn the receiver on and off with volume control. Know that Onkyo uses 2 codes 1 for on and 1 for off so use the AUX for ON with Volume control and the DVD for OFF. (I rarely use my DVD and when I do I use the DVD remote that came with the DVD)

Use the AUX and codes 1347 or 1558 to turn the receiver on with volume control. Press AUX and OK together and release. Enter the code. it should now turn the receiver ON with volume control.

To use the DVD button to turn the Receiver OFF, you have to use the search method to capture the code. Tried every code I could find on the internet and their is no universal code for OFF and ON.) With the receiver ON, push down DVD and OK together and release (should get 2 flashes of all component keys) enter 922 and with remote pointing at the receiver press the >" (forward/pause button) then press and release the >> (fast forward button) until the receiver turns off. If you go too fast and go past it, quickly turn receiver back on (within 20 seconds) and press-release the <<(backwards button) slowly until it turns off again. Then press the OK button to store the OFF code in the DVD function button. Any questions...E-Mail me at [email protected] Lots of Luck!

Code for Verizon FIOS remote Control

I have a solution which has worked well for me. It uses the DVD button at the top of the remote. It was a trade-off as none of the codes in the RC144 Philips remote will work any Blu-ray players, so the DVD button was unassigned. The 922, 955 and 977 codes are explained in the directions for the FIOS remote. http://onlinehelp.verizon.net/consumer/bin/pdf/philips%20rc1445302%20user%20guide.pdf
1. Set up your TV button to work your TV.
2. Set up your Onkyo code, pick one to turn on the receiver. I used 3719
3. Use the 9-2-2 code to cycle through all available codes. At about a count of 300 I found one which will turn the Onkyo receiver off. Make sure you start this process with the ONKYO receiver already on. Once you find it press the OK button.
4. Use the 9-7-7 code to power all devices TV, AUX and DVD from the power button.
In this way, each time the power button is pressed it will send both the power on and power off signal to the ONKYO receiver.
This technique works well when you point the remote at the ONKYO receiver and press power button. Apparently the TV has better reception for the signal then the ONKYO does.
