Dell 1600n printer driver for Windows 2003 Server

Unable to find a printer driver for Dell 1600n that will work with Windows 2003 Server.

  • mkfrancis Oct 30, 2008

Manual for Dell 1600n lists Windows 2003 Server as being compatiable, however, when you go to their downloads, Windows 2003 Server is not listed as a supported OS.

I had a similar problem deploying these printers, however i found using the XP drivers in 2003 does work fine. Not sure why dell doesnt have an installer for this printer in 2003 server, but here you go.

ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/printer/R165289.EXE

extract that file, note its destination directory. do not attempt to run the setup.exe, it will fail saying your operating system is not supported.

instead navigate to (if you didnt change the path) C:DelldriversR165289p0nPrinterPCLWINXP

this folder contains the driver you need to install manually.

one stange thing about these lexmark based network printers is the need to select 'local printer' during install, uncheck automatically search for my device, and then create a new TCP/IP port. Use the IP address provided by the network configuration print out you can access on the front panel of the printer. now just make sure to select 'lexmark network card' as the type of network interface. it should now ask you for your printer type, click have disk, and point to the driver folder mentioned earlier.

hope this helps. thanks alot dell.

Unable to locate disk to install our Dell Laser MFB 1600n printer after CPU had to reinstall windows and now the printer is not working.

You do not say which version of Windows, so I am providing a link to the Dell Driver page for that model:

Dell 1600n. I have to reset the printer constantly.

Do a hard reset of printer to erase all memories. Then also uninstall and reinstall the driver and see what happens. Also make sure that you are using the correct driver for your OS

Dell 1600n to be used on an imac

Hello! Unfortunately, Dell printers mainly supply Windows drivers on their website. To print to this printer, your new iMac will probably pull a generic driver to use with the printer. It should still work no problem, as you're saying, however you won't be able to use the software that's available on the PC. The downloads available for your Dell printer are here:
Dell 1600n Printer Downloads

You can tell by clicking that link and looking under Operating System that only Windows operating systems are available, as well as the software shown below, which is only made for Windows based systems. As for the PaperPort software, that program is made by a company called Nuance. When you purchased your printer, you most likely received a trial or full OEM version from Dell along with your new printer as a software bundle deal. From what I can see, the software is only Windows based. Sorry!

Below is the link to a free viewer that can still read your PaperPort files:

Windows Vista can't find networkd Dell 1600n

Make sure you're using the drivers for Vista, which can be found on support.dell.com. You'll want to use the choice for Vista 32-bit.

Also, try turning off your firewall, as it may be blocking the network data.
