Simply go to Settings > Wifi. If Wifi is off, turn it on. You'll see a list of available networks when you're in a hotspot. You can also have iphone tell you when you're near hotspots by turning on "Ask to Join Networks." You won't be able to use the internet when you're not in a wifi hotspot.

Why am i losing my internet connection before my data bundle expires/depletes

Suggest you contact your internet provider and see if there is some problem on their end. Also ask if you have exceeded their data plan of usage.
For example my Straight Talk phone plan states unlimited data, text and internet access, however in fine print I only have 2GB's of data.
Hardly 'unlimited' wouldn't you say?

It makes it so for example, that only so many videos can be watched on Youtube, etc.
Once the 2GB limit is reached that's it folks!

Two possible options:

Use Wifi to connect the iPad to your home wifi. Read this: iOS Connecting to Wi Fi

IF your iPad it equipped with cellular option (3G ,4G depending on iPad generation) you can insert a sim card with a mobile data plan to connect to the internet. Here are several reads for several providers:

Cannot access the internet or down load any apps onto my pay as you go i phone3g

First go to the Settings and turn on Cellular Data (as well as 3G if you wish to use 3G network). Next connect your iPhone to the iTunes and let it download cellular data file from Apple servers. If this doesn't help, contact your mobile operator to activate your internet.

If i surf the internet then charges is applicable from my balance

Unless you have a Data plan on your account then, yes - you'll be charged for your Internet usage. If you have a pay-as-you-go account, Internet usage will be deducted from your available balance. (Read: Less minutes to talk). Without a Data plan, surfing the Internet is VERY expensive.

If you plan to both, use the Internet a lot from your phone and talk and text a lot, too (and you want a pay-as-you-go account) and if you have iDEN service in your area then Boost Mobile would be your best choice. (If you have Sprint service in your area then you'll have Boost service as well.)

And, For every 6 on-time payments, Boost will lower your monthly payment by $5. You'll start off at $50 per month for unlimited service and 18 months later you'll only be paying $35/month for unlimited Internet, talk and texting. It's the best deal out there.

Can you surf the web on an Apple iPhone without a Wi-Fi connection?

There are two nation-wide cell networks that allow you to browse the internet. The EDGE network (for original iPhone) and the 3G network (3G is faster, but not as widespread and can only be accessed through the iPhone 3G ). iPhone monthly plans include unlimited use of the internet, without using up your calling minutes.

If you can take advantage of a nearby wireless hub, you'll have much better speed than when you're on a cell-phone data network... but even without wireless, you can still browse, email, work and play via the EDGE or 3G cell-phone network.
