The light is on, I've got power, the fan is working - the oven just wont heat up.
How do I check if the Heating Element is recieving power to ensure it's not the Thermostat that's the problem?
Oven appeared normal but not heating up - is it a Thermostat or Element problem.
The simplest approach is to check the element first - this can be done leaving the unit in its built in housing and is relatively easy to do.
Isolate power supplly, remove oven door (for cleaning), remove cover to fan and element - 6 screws. Element and fan exposed. Remove 3 element fixing screws. The element and connections can be drawn into the oven space.
Disconnect the electrical connections - pull connectors off with care - and check the continuity of the element with a test meter also check the resistance between the element and the element fixing plate. The continuity resistance will be in the order of 25 ohms, The resistance to the fixing plate should be infinity. Any significant variation to this assume element faulty.
If these test values are ok then the thermostat is suspect - a big job - call service engineer or write up the next solution!Oven appeared normal but not heating up - is it a Thermostat or Element problem.

I think I hve the same problem, but searching for the right part to replace is rather daunting. As far as the problem you are having is this: If it is not the Tstat or the Bake Element.....then perhaps it is the wires connected to the back element.........I have seen that problem before....check it out...i bet thats the solution!
I have a emachine laptop, it has power and the function, but after 15 minutes, it automatically shuts off.. what would i do? I'ved checked the software and other hardware parts they've kinda work.. but its very hot... what should i do?
Hi, I am a washing machine and electric oven repairs engineer and to find out if the problem you are having is the element or not simply do as mentioned by some one else above the continuity test and risistance test and you will have a fair idea whats going on.Hi, I am a washing machine and electric oven repairs engineer and to find out if the problem you are having is the element or not simply do as mentioned by some one else above the continuity test and risistance test and you will have a fair idea whats going on.

This tutorial will show you how to check your Smeg element and how to replace your Smeg cooker element.
Here are the 3 main faults to look for in your oven or cooker that is not heating
Your oven will not work until the clock/timer has been re-set after replacing an oven element or tripping the electrical supply. Consult your Smeg manual.
If your Oven is not getting hot or heating up it could be a faulty element, if the fan in the oven is running and the thermostat light is on, this will lead us to believe that the element has gone faulty. With grills the thermostat light should come on there should be heat, if not then this could be the grill element or the thermostat.
When you turn the oven on, the household electrical supply trips on the Rcd (this is the earth trip in the fuse board sometimes called the breaker tripping) your fan oven element has gone to earth and needs replacing.

Elements don't heat intermittently - if the element is good it will heat up every time. If the element is blown / burnt-out it wont ever heat.
As your oven is heating sometimes but not others, this means the power supply to the element has an interruption somewhere. This could be caused by any of the following:
1. Loose connection in the wiring at the switch or the element 2. Faulty switch 3. Faulty thermostat. 4. Faulty oven timer
The thermostat is effectively just a heat-sensitive switch. By default it should be "closed" allowing power to the element. When the oven reaches the desired temperature, this switch opens, cutting power to the element until the oven cools enough for the switch to close and allow power to the element again.
Any of these four could be the cause of your fault. Loose connections can often by located visually, however testing a thermostat for correct operation and calibration is more complicated and ideally requires test equipment. The timer is the least likely cause, so I would concentrate on the others first.
Repairing your oven or any other electrical appliance can be dangerous and many repairs require specialist knowledge and/or electrical test equipment. Please bear this in mind before and when attempting any repair or consider having your appliance professionally inspected.
If you are intending to investigate this problem yourself, please ensure the power is disconnected at the wall/breaker first. Initially, I suggest that you visually check the connections at the element and the switch. You may find a wire at one of these locations that is partially broken or detached. Personally, I suspect your thermostat may be faulty.
Your oven will not work until the clock/timer has been re-set after replacing an oven element or tripping the electrical supply. Consult your Zanussi manual.
