Boot device not found

1) BIOS Setup states no harddrive found? Remove all power. AC adapter (Charger), and Battery. Remove Harddrive. Press Power On button in, hold in for 10 seconds, let go. Do this procedure 2 more times.
Reinstall Harddrive, and then Battery. Hook AC adapter again.
Harddrive recognized now?

You press the Power On button. This in turn presses against the Power On switch. The power is initialized. First chipset to receive power is the BIOS chipset. The Basic Input/Output System program is initialized. BIOS LOOKS TO SEE WHAT DEVICES ARE INSTALLED, does a Ram Memory count, and hands the computer over to the Operating System.

This is what I am basing the above on.

2) Not to knock sellers on Ebay, as I have found a few that are decent.
However the motherboard could be bad.
Harddrive controller could be bad.
Southbridge chip of motherboard chipset,

(CPU = Processor),

3) Don't E-slap me, but you were wearing an ESD wrist strap, with it's alligator clip attached to a good ground source; when replacing the motherboard, correct?

My laptop does not recognise my external harddrive

click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x
right click to reinstall drivers or

if you can see your usb but its not working
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver

sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable

just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again,

check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems

if this fails to fix the problem
type in run "regedit" then press ok then you can see registry editor then locate below key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11 CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} And remove upper filter and lower filter.

Then restart computer then check.

Also locate the below key and make sure it's value is 3 not 4. HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\services\usbstor make sure start value is 3 not 4

if still no luck
you might have to install a usb 2 or 3 card they are cheap and easy to install you can buy these on Ebay very cheap
hope this helps

Uninstall the WD drivers, then, leaving the WD drives attached to the computer, reboot the computer.

Here is something else to try: Driver Booster by Iobit.

And take a look at the software for your drives at the Western Digital site.

Usb problem

no fear. sorry to say that your usb flash is done for. extracting the information can be done, but it is a specialized job and thus will cost a small fortune. getting it repaired is fairly simple but the information inside might not be attainable due memory chip damage. does your fash disk power up (as in does the light on it flash when plugged unto the USB port)?

babyvalkyrie. your problem is slightly different. what you need to do is log onto the bios menu during startup if the bios recognises the the HDD then you can try to re-install windows on it, but during setup you will have to formatt your harddrive fully (formatt using the long formatt not the quick formatt. also use the ntfs formatt. If your bios does not recognise your HDD then you will just have to replace it.

Harddrive is not recognised by my Mac OSX (10.4.8)

When you reboot and hold down the option key, does the drive show up during that initial process? Is the weird noise more like clicking or more like a high-pitched whirring? If the drive has been damaged on a hardware level (causes too numerous to list... age, power fluctuations, being knocked over or dropped, corrosion, poor workmanship...) and won't show up at all, it is probably now a paperweight. There are a couple of utilities available to troubleshoot disc problems for Macs. The most popular are Disk Warrior and Tech Tool Pro. They can often "see" a disc that Disc Utilities misses, and assist you in copying the data from the drive. This process is important to be cautious with, however, since your drive is making noises it should no longer be considered reliable and the best hope is to retrieve your data and then get a new one or have yours replaced [if it is under warranty].
