IM a service tech and also a installer for HVAC and the honeywell zoning system has 3wires at the mother board and then only two at the zone damper. you have common open and close at the mother borad and open and close on the zone damper ,do you only need open and close at mother board and not the common because the borad controls the common???????????????????????
No. If it's power open and power close you need 3 wires at both locations. If it has a spring you could get away with 2 wires. Depending on how hard it would be to run a new wire you do have the option of changing the damper.

SOURCE: Short burn cycles
if thats a new themostst it sounds like you didnt set the cycle dip switches correctly, the type of heat you have is unknown to the thermostat so you have to tell it or it may short cycle or overheat
SOURCE: Have a Honeywell M847D1004 Actuator for my zone
No, more than likely it is the plastic wheel and I have found no available replacement parts for that. Honeywell did an amazing job with providing a quality product that will fail after 3 years
