I shoot sports for three weekly papers, shooting about 800-1000 imagesa
week. But sometimes my Canon Rebel XTi won't fire - tothe
point my fingers are sore from pushing so hard.
I
shot a soccer game under sunny, cool conditions from 4:30 -6 p.m.
At7:30 p,n., as it cooled dopwn and it became darrk, the camera
firedonce - once in a while. But I was able to get enough shots from
thatfootball game. It was probably 30-35 degrees Fahrenheit at that
time.
And now this morning, after sitting in doors, I can't even take a shot off the dog with the built-in flash.
Nothing - and I have three games to cover today.
Hi
Sounds like you have shot so many photos you have worn out the shutter box. The box is usually good for about 10,000 actuations... so... sounds like you have gotten far more than that out of it.
I have one XTi with a buddy right now who is a certified Canon, Nikon and Fuji tech and he's putting in a new shutter box for one of my customers. It's the first one he's done so I will see if he wants to keep doing them or not and how much he would want if he decides he will continue to do them for me.

Is your camera chirping to let you know that the image is in focus? If you're in dark situations, if the camera/lens don't find a good focus, it won't let you fire. Are you activating the auto focus first by pressing halfway down on the shutter button before trying to fire?
How long has this been happening? Does it only happen when the temps are low? Batteries will deplete much faster in colder temps.
