For accounting offices and stores, calculators that produce a printed paper are indispensable. Canon's desktop or commercial printing calculators use ribbon tape, and you'll need to change the ribbon when it is used up. All Canon desktop and commercial printing calculators use the same method for changing the ribbon.
Turn off the calculator.
Pull up on the tab on the far side of the printer cover to remove the cover.
Pinch together the ribbon lock (the arrow shows you the direction to pinch). Lift the ribbon spools off the shafts and discard them.
Separate the new ribbon spools. Guide the ribbon tape around the four guiding pegs and set the spools on the shafts. The spools should be peg side down.
Rotate the spools so the peg at the bottom of the spool goes into the hole of the spool holder. Release the ribbon locks.
Rotate the spools to make the ribbon taut, keeping the ribbon positioned around the guide pegs.
Replace the printer cover and turn the calculator on.
you may have place the ribbon spools so they are unwinding instead of winding up the ribbon. The left spool turns counterclockwise and the right spool turns clockwise. Make sure the ribbon winds onto the spools when turned in those directions.
You probanly installed it wrong. Most T/W's spooled ribbons wind to the outside of the spool, however there were a few that wind to the inside. Withe the ribbon off type & watch the spool mech. install the ribbon so that it will wind onto the spool.
You have the ribbon on wrong. The ribbon dosen't feed off the spool but take up onto the spool. install the ribbon so that the moving spool is taking up the ribbon.
This is a case of a failing reel motor. What happens i sthe brushes become aged and wear down and the motor has what they call a dead spot on the Commutator. The motor will work fine at high speeds as the inertia is working for it but when you use a slow speed as in play mode the motor hits the dead spot and stops. You will need a new reel motor in the most likely case- I can service the deck if you want at Skywave Tape Deck Repair Chicago area. I will most likely put a new motor into the deck.
Really? An Underwood typewriter?
First, do you have a replacement ribbon that is not dried out? Does the ribbon come on one spool or two?
If the typewriter already has a ribbon installed, it is a simple matter of noting the path the current ribbon follows, and which way the ribbon winds onto the spools. Then install the new ribbon following exactly the same threading path. If there is not already a ribbon installed, then it is a little more complicated, and it will depend on your spatial relationship visualization skills.
1. Type a few letters on the typewriter, and take note of which way the spools turn.
2. Mount the two new spools containing the new ribbon so that the full spool will supply (unwind), and the empty spool will take-up (wind) the ribbon.
3. Thread the ribbon through all of the guides in the threading path - there are probably about 6-8 guides that the ribbon has to go through. The most important guides are the ones that carry the ribbon in front of the typeface elements as they strike the paper. But equally important are the guides that monitor the tension of the ribbon - they will cause the spool advance mechanism to reverse the ribbon take-up direction when the ribbon reaches the end of travel.
There is one motor and two belts - one belf for each ribbon spool. It's possible the belts are the problem, but it sounds more like it's the ribbon spindle itself. The spindles contain clutches, and when the clutches bind up the spindles don't want to turn. Sounds like you need a new ribbon spindle.
First, type a few letters to find out which direction the spools wind the ribbon (either to the inside or outside). Make sure the spools are installed to wind the ribbon in the correct direction. Second, make sure there is some ribbon wound in the empty spool so the eyelette on the ribbon for automatic reverse does not cause a jam by getting on the carriage side of the reverse guide. Take one spool in each hand, and let just enough slack in the ribbon to insert it behind the ribbon guide next to the platen. Note: the ribbon must go behind the two middle fingers of the guide and in front of the two outward fingers of the guide. If the guide has downward hooks on the outward guides, make sure the ribbon goes under the hooks to prevent the ribbon from bouncing out of the guide during typing. Next, make sure the ribbon passes through the metal guide fingers in front of the ribbon spool holders (these are for the automatic reverse - make sure the metal eyelettes in the ribbon stay on the spool side of the fingers or you will not get a reverse, and the ribbon will jam). Place the spools on the spindles of the spool holders. If the spool is hard to mount, check to see if there is a slot in the ribbon spool to align with a lever or mechanism on the spool holder of spindle. Hope this helps.
