I need map update for my Garmin 2620. Anyone know where I can find an update? Garmin says they no longer support the 2620.

Most likely your hard drive is gone bad. Push "menu+find" buttons then turn on, you will get diagnostic screen, it will show if your cornice drive is bad. It will say"Cornice Dive removed"4f3efc6.jpg

You didn't say how long you've had your device, but if you haven't registered your device at Garmin.com yet, go do that and they will then offer you a free upgrade.

Other than that, I don't think you'll find anything free. The next best thing is to buy the "nüMaps Lifetime™". I felt this was the best deal they have.

SOURCE: Is there any free map updates for the garmin nuvi?

Asmany as there are FREE dinners Updates are not free, unless you paid full price for it when you bought it. Free upgrades are a deceptive myth. If you get a free uograde its usually minor and was included in the price of the pack.

Is there any updated map for streetpilot 2620 since 2008?

Yes. There is one more mapset and then there will be no more for us using the StreetPilot 2620. You are looking for the disc set North American Navigator 2009. Make sure you do not purchase the NT version. I found the item on EBAY for $81and purchased it and it worked just fine. The 2009 is the last compatible map set that Garmin released for the 2620. Be certain that what you purchase includes that unlock key otherwise you will spend another $75 on that at the Garmin Unlock Site.

Here is the link that is good for a few more days, however, may relist it. The seller is yumelectronics and the search term is 2009 City Navigator.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390193775928

Here is the search for EBAY:
http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=city+navigator+2009

Here is the item on Garmin's site:
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=8465

Listed as:
City Navigator® North America This product has been discontinued but is still available for purchase.

It is $99.99.

Good luck, and let me know if you have any other questions.

The garmin 2620 will not load maps

You are caught in a loop most likely caused by a failed microdrive. Search Garmin 2620 cornice for a thread that is likely to provide the information about the failure you are experiencing. In short, if it is the Cornice drive that has failed you will find it very difficult to repair, if not impossible depending on your level of expertise and ability to find a used part for repair as the drives needed are no longer manufactured or readily available.

connect your GPS to your PC and load your local maps to the hard drive. Maybe update your firmware as well. Good luck.

Won't boot up

I have a same problem, and I think I can fix it, may be not. Any how, I bought a cornice drive on eBay and as soon I will get it. I will load my maps on to it with usb connector after that I take it a part and remove it from its case. Then I will take my Garmin Streetpilot 2620 apart remove the old cornice drive and install the new drive. I suspect it will work like a charm. To check your GPS at boot push and hold "menu-find" buttons simultaneously and you will get a screen to verify your problematic cornice drive.59c5167.jpg

Replacing maps

You cant... Garmin sucks at support for doing stuff like this. They want you to buy a new one instead, only to find out its obsolete in a few years and then your new one is not supported in lets say in the year 2010.
That is why the Flash model 2010 and 2050 were more popular. Gave users more options and less moving parts for there unit to break.

GArmin 2620

In February I posted that I will replace the cornice drive on my 2620 because I had this problem 019d1f6.jpg Well I did that, but could not fix the problem. Garmin is asking $275 to replace my unit, I did not wanted to pay them that much. So I bought a 2610 at eBay for a $100 and don't have to worry about hard drives any longer.
To get this screen on a GPS push "menu+find" and then turn on unit. It will show this diagnostic screen.
