I repair laptops for work and when I get a HP mini with a locked bios and unknown password then I use www.unlockbiosrecovery.com and for $20 they send me the master bios password for my specific laptop which clears any bios password set. It has saved me so much time and money!! They do most laptop brands and models. They can also clear hard drive passwords on laptops.

Administrator password

You may have to contact Dell directly if its a hard drive or BIOS password.
I do know using a Windows 7 install disc will repair this error (if you can get past the password). Just insert and choose repair. gl

Hp pavilion dv9000 takes a long time to get past the bios screen. It won't boot of dvd either??

Check BIOS boot options and assign local hard drive as first for faster boot. This is also where you set CD\DVD as first to boot from disc. Look for F Key press on start up. It will be shown on screen. These can vary.

Many HP machines also have a boot menu option during boot. Again an F key and may vary.

Forgot password

how to reset or clear the BIOS password is to physically remove the power from the computer by disconnecting the power plug and then removing the Cmos battery for 30 minutes from the motherboard some motherboards cmos batteries are soldered in

Another way is to reset the clear CMOS jumper on the motherboard itself. Both of the 2 methods mentioned works because most motherboards use a battery to sustain the BIOS/CMOS settings for the motherboards PROM chip. So by cutting off cmos the battery power, the BIOS/CMOS settings will be erased
or if using XP

Restart your computer during the boot process tap the f8 button three times this will boot into safe mode where the only things working will be your mouse and keyboard enabling you to attempt to repair your computer Advanced Boot Options screen appears.

Select the Safe Mode option using the up and down arrow keys, then press the ENTER key. Choose "Windows XP Home/Professional", depending on the version of the operating system.

Press ENTER. Shortly, the welcome screen should show.
Log in as "Administrator". Click Yes to not use System Restore Mode.

Click the Start button. Choose Run and type in "control user passwords" (without the quotes). Click OK.

Select the "Administrator" user. Click Change my password. Enter a new password in the corresponding text boxes. Click OK. Write this password down and store it in a secure place
Close the User Accounts window and restart Windows.

Click Finished and exit the program and close any other open programs. 8. Restart the computer. Leave USB plugged in. 9. As soon as the computer restarts, tap the F10 button to enter the BIOS Menu. 10. Scroll to the Boot / Advanced Menu and change the boot order to USB first, HDD second. 11. Save and exit BIOS. Computer will restart. 12. Once booted up the computer will bypass the HDD and boot into the USB 13. elect Ophcrack from the list and hit Enter. 14.
