I have a Panafax UF-885.
The last few days, I can neither send or receive faxes. I am getting an error code OPT-3. Any suggestions?
I get a dialtone when I hit the monitor button and have checked that the phone line is plugged into the jack.
Along with the "Panafax (AU) OPT-3" message, I get an alternate flashing "Printing Comm Journal." message.
When I hit "monitor," and get a dial tone, I get a message that the fax machine is receiving a fax.
Then it's always back to the OPT-3 message.
Thank you very much,
Nancy E. Yoerg

003 - Recording paper jammed when feeding from the 3rd cassette. Remove the jammed paper.
(1) Open the Printer Cover.
(2) Remove the jammed paper.
(3) Slide out the Paper Cassette.
(4) Remove the jammed or wrinkled paper and reload the recording paper into the paper cassette.
Caution: Make sure that the paper is set under the clips of the Paper Cassette. You can load about 500 sheets with standard weight paper (20 lb. or 75 g/m2).

Error 055 is a laser error. the laser is not spinning at the proper speed and may need replacement. There is another solution, where some ferrite cores are added around three cables to reduce electronic interference. Best call a local technician for further diagnosis.
Open the toner door and remove the cartridge
Turn the machine off
Open the document feeder by pulling straight up
While turning the machine back on, hold down the pointed switch actuator closest to the small glass
Close the document feeder..display should read "RAM INITIALIZE"
Scroll down to "SHIPMENT SET"
Press "2" for "NO"
Wait for the machine to reboot (could take 5 mins)
Some times a bad toner cartridge will cause this.
If this does not work, you have a bad Main PC Board. Uneconomical to repair.
