Hello, my Lacie electron22blueIV on/off switch seems to have lost it's click and i am now unable to turn it on and get power to it, before this happened it was working fine and calibrated easily using my Gretag eye-one. this monitor is about 5 years old but has always been in good working order. Just wondered if there is a quick fix or a simple replacement i could do. Thanks Dan

SOURCE: Dell LCD monitor suddenly loses power

Hello,

Five years is a long time for an LCD panel. You definetly got your money's worth.

But, if your trouble shooing has led you to this conclusion I can also only conclude that the power driver inside your panel just gave up the ghost.

However, try giving Dell a call, for what's thats worth and see what they have to say.

You might also want to ask this expert "Robotek" what he may think as he is a board troubleshooter and could give you an answer if one is there.

Type this or copy and paste into your browser's address bar:

And then click on the Ask Me button under his picture.

SOURCE: Gateway FPD 1730 Monitor

What has happened is part of your back lighting circuitry has gone out. Yes it is repairable but can cost most of what a replacement monitor will cost these days. Check that out before spending the money. If the problem is only in the back lighting circuit then expect to spend about $100 for a replacement board.

LCD monitors lifespan depends on the quality. Normal use and you should get 2-3 years of reliable service minimum. The display itself is good for about 4000 or so hours of use or more. The problems that show up are always (well 99.99% of the time) are back lighting problems like you have experienced. You should turn it off by the switch when not using it as every hour it runs the screen save is an hour of usable life. Heat is not good for it so if your computer gets the dust cleaned out to keep it cool do the monitor at the same time. Once a year at least more if you smoke use gas heat and have pets.

Tube monitors have a much longer life but you have the size weight and poorer display to go with them. If you have to go back to a tube monitor don't go back to your 14 ask around and you should be able to get a 17 or 19 crt for free. Or expect to pay no more than $10-20 for one.

SOURCE: My monitor turns on but then goes black after

It could also just be the button is faulty... but a 6 year monitor is going to start throwing more and more problems at you.

Go to eBay.com and treat yourself to a nice new monitor - they are very cheap these days.

More likely to be bad caps in the power supply, look inside and report what you see so we can guide you further, see example of failed monitors due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

Lacie 16gb whizkey unable to format in mac

If you have a windows computer, attempt to format it in the drive options (Control panel > System And Security > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management, then right-click the drive, format into FAT 32) Otherwise, use disk utility (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utilities) to format it on mac (I don't have a mac right in front of me, but from what I'm reading, it seems to be a straightforward process)

I have an old LaCie d2 160GB Hard Drive Extreme with Triple Interface (circa 2005)... I have lost my power cord and I can't seem to be able to find one online to purchase...Does anyone know where I can...

Hello,
your drive can be used with any D2 or Big Disk power supply as well as some LaCie Porsche power supplies (you need to make sure the connector is the same).
Searching for LaCie Power supply on eBay will give you a few hits that match your needs.

Same clicking Problem

Glad you worked it out cheap switch mode supplies can make a clicking noise when pooched. Now if the hard drive itself makes that noise you are in trouble. Almost any replacement power supply will do so long as it is capable of delivering not only the correct voltage but the correct current as rated in "mA" milliamps or "A" Amps.
You can of course exceed the current rating and quite often that can be a good thing to do as it may well prolong the life of the supply even if it may cost a few pennies more.

I can usually judge a good supply by its size and weight VS its power ratings. I like em large and heavy

Lacie hard drive won't turn on

My 1TB Lacie suddenly won't power up (no sound, no blue light). It turned out that I might have worn out the on/off switch over the seldom-use 4 years of usage. I push and flip the switch multiple times, and the Lacie came back to live and mount normally. I will just leave it at the On setting and simply pull the power cord when i want to switch it off.

Obviously, Lacie failed to do QA on the on/off switch because my 4 years usage did not totalled to more than 10 on/off per month.

External Hard drive clicking sound and unable to view contents of

First check the LaCie power supply. I have a D2 HARD DISK EXTREME 250GB model 300770 that had this exact problem. I swapped out the power supply for the higher wattage unit from LaCie and presto, the drive functioned properly. Not saying this will fix your problem but I have personally had this exact problem. If not take the drive and mount it in a PC IDE/EIDE disk slot and see if you can mount the drive and recover your data (points to LaCie controller problem). Note opening the drive invalidates your LaCie warranty. Also note the warranty on my drive was one years and had long since passed. If that does not work, your last alternative it to use a disk data recovery service but that is big $$$$s. Bon Chance!

Powering up my Lacie ethernet disk 250

When I had this problem it turned out to be the power supply unit. Lacie replaced it - if you are out of warranty you can buy them for about £25 - and this solved the problem.

Lacie drive won't mount

I solved the problem. It was a power supply problem. It seems after searching boards on the net, this is a common problem with the lacie hard drives. Just replace the power if your hard drive is clicking and not mounting. I think many people must be throwing the drives away thinking they are lost when it is just the power supply. Try this first before trashing it or spending a lot of money on data recovery programs/

LaCie Hard Drive

The hard drive has it's own power supply. If you look on the back of the external hard drive, there is a power button there to turn it off. It doesn't shut off just cause you disconnect it from the PC or turn the PC off.
