Hello,
Their are a couple possibilities;

The door gasket was letting air into the freezer and the resuliting warm air will condensate and freeze and the resulting ice of the condensation has froze at the vents where the cool air enters and or returns from/into the fresh food compartment. the vents can be seen in the ceiling of the fresh food section and you would see ice build up in them. If thats the case turn off the entire unit and use a hair blow dryer to thaw and remove that icebuild up freeing the vents for proper air flow.

Secondly it could be a defrost problem BUT the vents are clear but the coil in the freezer is still blocked with frost,once again blocking proper air flow into the fresh food section. If the coil on back wall has frost on it but NOT between all spaces its the vents. IF entire freezer coil is blocked with frost and you cant see between the open spaces on the coil in freezer its a defrost problem.

Heres what to check if entire coil in freezer is on big frost block;
DEFROST HEATER ...remove back wall of freezer and you will see a black heater at the bottom of the coil thats frosted up,it looks similar to the bake element in your oven,or in some cases it is going to be a spiraled wires inside of a glass tube. To check it,use a multimeter set to the lowest ohms of resistiance setting and follow and find the wires at the top of that frosted coil,unplug/disconnect those wires and check for continuty with around 5-20 ohms of resistiance. If it has that amount of ohms the heater is good. If your meter display does not change or displays OL the defrost heater is broke and needs to be replaced

DEFROST TERMINATION THERMOSTAT... it's round and has 2 wires and clips to the top of that frosted up coil. IT MUST BE CHECKED WHEN COLD SO BEST TO DO WHEN FROST IS STILL BUILT UP. To check it disconnect the wires on it and check for ZERO ohms of resistiance. As with the heater if the meter display OL or doesnt change,it is the problem

DEFROST CONTROL...it is hard to check for a semi unskilled person and if the heater or defrost t-stat check good its going to be the problem. It will NOT be in the freezer it could be on back wall or inside the control panel in the refrigerator section.

Good luck,
Gene

Wide variation in temperature in refrigerator section (40 degrees in top, 20 degrees in bottom, also, freezer set at WARMEST setting is ten degrees below zero.

Amana refrigerators older than 5 years have both a cold control and freezer control. this may be your problem. But check both the gaskets on the doors and check for heavy dirt on condser coil. Both can cause wild temp problems. Hope this helps

Water drops under top door always!

Hello,

That is strong indication that the magnets inside of the door gasket(s) are weak and aren't holding tight to the door to seal it. The door gasket(s) need to be replaced.

Freezer working, but fridge is not. when you turn it off then back on its kicking on but fridge is not getting cold.

Hi,

Check the air return on the bottom left wall of the refrigerator side. Check for cold air flow at the top of the refrigerator when the compressor is running. If you feel no air flow, open the freezer door and see if you detect significantly more air flow after opening the freezer door. This could indicate a return air flow restriction and make sure that there no blocking of air vent at the top of refrigerator section that supplies the cold air from the freezer.Check the door seal gasket on the refrigerator for leaks.

If there is still same problem then you need to replace evaporator fan.

Hope this helps.

Refrigerator door gasket needs replacing.

yes.. costs is about $100.00 for a gasket (bought from an appliance store- add 4-6 hours of frustration trying to get the !@#$%^&* gasket to seat flat against the door frame.. Then call the appliance store.. probably about another 75-100$ to have them do it..

Frost forms on top of food in my freezer (top of refrigerator)...even inside sealed bags of items like microwave Stouffer's, etc. Sometimes up to 1/4" thick! No frost on inside of freezer though. ?????

This excess frosting can be caused by leaky door gaskets, frequent door opening, dispenser door not closing good, anywhere air can get in. Gaskets should hold a dollar bill sung all the way around both doors.

I have an Amana bottom freezer frig. The freezer is starting to show frost inside and build up. Also I noticed some white snow looking stuff under on the front corner. Its not cold like ice but hard white...

the ref. is pulling in air from the gasket.check gasket by using a dollar bill.shut the freezer door with dollar bill between gasket and freezer.if you can pull the bill out wit ease then you must replace gasket.if frost is on back panel then you have a defrost problem.but it sounds like a gasket.

Bottom of freezer/fridge only getting cold.

Thre is a fan inside the freezer which circulates the cold air around both the fridge and the freezer compartments.
You should be able to feel cold air blowing around the inside, particularly at the top of the freezer.
If the defrost thermostat fails open, the internal fan (depending on freezer) will stop and this can be the cause of the freezer being warm at the top and no ice.
You say the bottom of the freezer is blowing cold, but are you sure its blowing, as it can feel like a cold blow. Of course the fan could have failed or may be the defrost heater itself.
