It could be that the screen is at the correct resolution, but the icons are just set to display larger (Vista allows this). Right-click on the desktop (NOT over any icons), and select "View". there you can select the size of the desktop icons.

Okay, maybe I mis-understood the question. Are you saying that your screen is at the wrong resolution and the control panel isn't allowing you the option to change it?

I have a windows vista product key of my laptop. But i don't have the recovery cd and my laptop has corrupted. So, Can i get the os by downloading using my product key?.How do i get the OS?.

Ok you are unable to download an Operating System from the Internet using the product key you have. I suggest either phoning the company you bought the laptop form or the manufacturer of yur laptop and asking them for a Recovery CD for your laptop model as one didn't come with it. Also have your product key of Windows Vista to hand.

If the backup and recovery disk are for that model of computer , just remove VISTA or Reformat the hard driver using software outside of Window, then reinstall all the Xp stuff, just as if you had a new hard drive. Save all personal files first, of course..

When you hit F12 or whatever F key to go to the boot drive menu, make sure the cd is in and that you select CD/DVD Drive and the dvd should prompt you to hit any key or will automatically start loading for the recovery. Just tell me if you need further assistance.

HOW TO FACTORY RESET TOSHIBA SATELLITE NOTEBOOK

That model Toshiba does not come with a recovery CD, does not have a restore partition, and does not allow you to creat a recovery disc when working normally, so unfortunatly you have 2 choices.

1. Call Toshiba and try to get them to mail you a recovery disk, if they have any they will likely charge you for the disk + shipping.

2. Reinstall windows manually using a clean install, you can use any OEM windows disk as long as it is the same version as your windows product key on the bottom of the laptop (i.e XP Home/XP PRO/ XP MCE/ or VISTA - all vista disks are basically the same and have all 3 versions on them)

Make sure you have backups of the drivers for your network adapter and other hardware before doing a clean install.

Wat do I do??

You will need to purchase WIndows Operating System and this will will format the entire Hard drive and re-install WIndows on the laptop. WIth WIndows XP or Vista it should find most of the drivers for the components on the laptop. For the specific things on the laptop, you can then go to the Toshiba website and download (probably from another PC) the needed drivers for your system. You will also have to purchase any application software unless you utlize the OpenSource free Star Office which is comparable to Microsoft Office. I hope this helps.

Recovery/Backup Disks

Hello brownxc

It is unlikely that Toshiba will be able to provide you w/ the recovery CD(s) for your computer. If you don't have the recovery CD(s), you can install the OS (operating system) using an OEM Windows ME CD.

You'll need your product key code. Check the bottom of your laptop for a COA (certificate of authenticity) sticker with the product key code for the operating system (if it is currently not bootable). If your system is still bootable, the product key code can be retrieved from the system registry. (We can help you w/ that.)

The downside of not using the Toshiba recovery CD(s) is you won't get the bundled software back. (Software that came pre-installed w/ your computer.) If you use a Windows ME OEM (original equipment manufacturer) CD, you'll only get the OS. So, you'll need to acquire the installations CDs for your applications, etc.

You should be able to download all the drivers, etc. that you'll need for your laptop from Toshiba's web site. Do this b-e-f-o-r-e you begin the recovery or OS installation process so that, as you're prompted for drivers during the course of the installation, you'll be able to provide them at the time.

Please, let us know if we can be of any more assistance.

Good Luck!

BJ
