Can you try hooking it up to a different Mac?
We need to figure out if the problem is with the Mac or the unit itself ;)

Go to your computers control panel find your devices section locate your settings for your synth in/out to see if there active or not. consider to go tothe M-Audio website to chec for recent downloads for ti. You may need to upgrade your windows?

Buy a pcmcia firewire card for your laptop, usb for movie capture is not good.

. And no, you cannot use firewire with it, only TRS and MIDI.
