That sounds like a buffer issue.
Have you tried adjusting the buffers in your recording software?
Also virus scanners are known to hog resources and cause garbled audio. Maybe try disabling your virus scanner?
Good luck..
HI there
I would imagine the drivers from M-Audio are not signed and therefore may not be proven to be compatible with win7. I checked the website and they have drivers for different service pack levels on Vista (I know yours is win7) which is very unusual. This points to them having issues releasing signed off working drivers. Make sure you know what you have installed, 32 or 64 bit win 7. Do not go by the sticker on the case. Go start>control panel>system and look it up
Both versions of 64 bit and 32 bit seem the same file
FireWire_6.0.1_5.10.0.5058.exe
which seems weird too
I would uninstall the drivers and choose delete as well start>search> type 'dev' and see the results. Click on device manager, open it under sound right click all devices>properties>click on driver tab>
then click uninstall but tick the delete driver box too
then reboot the pc but do not load the driver from M audio we want Microsofts generic driver to load After the reboot see if it works.
If not do a system update (start>search>type 'windows u' and click on windows update Look under optiopnal updates and see if there is one for an audio device and load that
Failing this try the M audio XP driver If that fails, uninstall and delete as per earlier.
Failing that try the Win 7 driver for 32 bit If that fails, uninstall and delete as per earlier.
Failing that try the Win 7 driver for 64 bit If that fails, uninstall and delete as per earlier.
I think M audio has issues with code for drivers and win 7 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anJJ02VV1qs You may want to look at a new system as it seems M has some bad press with support.
All the best now, but it may be that the drivers are not signed off from Microsoft. If this is the case, you may want to chase up M audio and ask if they can be honest and let you know if there are any issues with Windows 7.
Microsoft are releasing Service Pack for Win 7 first half of 2011 and this may mop-up some issues.

I washaving troubles with 410 in my new macbook pro osX10.6.1. I tried to update and... now is not working anymore! Does any install snow leopard beta driver on regular leopard? Does it works?
Unfortunately, you may have to upgrade. Depending how old your system is typically you need to upgrade every 3 to 4 years. You might upgrade your RAM. When you turn on your computer wait at least 5 minutes for all your drivers to load. If you open up an application before they load it may cause a conflict and not load all drivers. Make sure your not connected to the Internet. When your connected to the Internet all your programs that are not set up to not look for updates will. You wont even know that their doing this until it's to late. This is what I would do. Go to your system restore and restore to a point that you knew it was working. When you look at your restore options it will give you a list by day what was added. Just look at these day's and try and remember what you installed before this started happening. You're having a conflicting problem. Now we need to find out where. Feel free to contact me with any other questions. Hope this helps. JimmyC
definately operated at 5400rpm, that should be minimum. Those all audio apps recommend recording at 7200rpm, ala 3.5 hard disks. It's the set standard for hard disk recording. The drive is spiining to slow to keep up with system clock speed.
I had a similar problem, until I turned off my WiFi. I din't want to believe it would be the problem but it sure was, sucks that I cant be online while i'm trying to record something.

Hi isterix! I also have a 410 on a acer 1502 laptop with xp. I installed the latest driver (5.10.00.5053) and i have sound (after changing sound preferences in panel control) but it makes me peaks in the playback. I think it's due to the driver, that is the same also for windows vista. I'll try to install the previous one and i'll tell you!
