The DVD player stalls during

Hello

Either your EVD players' Laser Pickup Unit is dusty, or its laser emission has gone down. Jusp put a cleanin disc in it and play for at least three times by taking it in and out. If this helps the pickup units' lens was dirty. If not there is no other way than replacing it with a same type and number. When replacing, insist on same type and number, never install a susbstitue one, as it is critical component of your system.
Just do one thin first. Open it after unscrewing the 5 or 6 screws on the side and back, and look into the mechanism to see the strip wire used to connect between laser pickup unit ot the main board is detachable or not. In most DVD playersm it is detachable by loosing the two small end clios at its two connecting ends. if it a detachable one, it will look white in colour with some lines through it, a flexible one, which moves alongwith the laser pickup unit. Its tracks are of carbon lines, and not copper metal material. it is easy to break as it has to meove according to the tracking movement of the pickup unit. It will have upto 18 carbon conductors through it, and even one of them breaks internaly, will poise some problem in disc reading and playing. So if it is a detachable one, replace it first and see the effect. If it is attached with the laser pickup unit, and is not detachable, the only way is to replace it. Samsung uses both types of pickup units and so I gives this explanation to you. If you want anymore assistance, fee free to contact me through Fixya. OK
Wish you Happy and Peacefull 2011.

Dvd side is not reading

Please try to put in an ordinary audio CD track and see if this is detected. If yes the optical is working , if not there is no laser scanning and the possibility of the head being faulty is high.
Now certain cleaner disks are not read and so will not be tracked. hence the rejection but the best is for cleaning manually the laser head eye with a cotton bud very softly and without any pressing of the lens eye.
If there is still no result then watch the CD if it spins or tries to spin. If the head unit moves up or down to focus or in and out of the drive , if so the board seems to work correctly and the possibility of the optical head being the suspected fault is closer.
Finally try to see if the set records on a DVD with a given siganl source. If not the fault is confirmed.
But if any of the above seems otherwise we must recheck with possibilites of the processor board

Problem with the lens

I think we have a design problem here; possibly the unit uses a single-beam laser. Here are the symptoms I have found from my V6800.
When I inserted a DVD that had some minor imperfections, I found that the DVD would hang, usually at the same spot. After cleaning the DVD, there was a noticeable improvement, but it still would start to hang at about 38 to 44 minutes.
Although I have not corrected the problem, I did get enough information to pin the blame on the V6800, and not the DVD with the minor imperfections. Here is how I came up with my conclusion:
I took the "defective" DVD to my PC, and made a copy of it.
The copy played perfectly on the V6800.
The "defective" DVD played perfectly on my PC.
CONCLUSION: If you have a DVD in perfect condition, the V6800 will play it without any problem.
I don't like the DVD medium because of the scratch problem. Fortunately the write-once Flash Memory cards will take the place of the DVD in the near future. Watch SanDisk!

Player does not recognize that a disk has been inserted

Hey again vmon,

If this isn't a behavior that the DVD player has exhibited in the past, you might be looking at a potential hardware failure instead. While some noise may be expected from any optical drive (DVD player, CR-ROM, etc.), it should be fairly consistent while the drive is in operation. Any kind of unusual "skipping," buzzing or grinding noise can often be an indicator that an internal component is out of alignment, or that the rotational mechanism in the drive has encountered a problem.

As such, you might want to discontinue using the player until you've had the chance to speak directly with a repair technician. Even if internal components have suffered failures from normal usage over time, there still can often be a risk of damage to any CD/DVD media used in the player until parts can be examined or replaced.

The only drawback to seeking repairs on devices like DVD/VCR players is that in many cases repair costs may exceed the purchase price of a brand-new player. If you aren't necessarily attached to this specific model, I'd suggest checking out your local retailer for pricing and availability of possible replacements. Most retailers should carry a fairly wide variety of makes and models, generally priced anywhere from around $80.00 to upwards of $300.00.

Again, hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron

The DVD will play and display, but the VHS will play but not display.

It could be that the output to TV from VHS only works through the composite cables (the red, white, yellow).

Yes.  You'll just run the connections through the dig converter box...instead of however it's connected now.  ANT In/ANT out.

Player does not recognize that a disk has been inserted

Hey vmon,

If you haven't been having any trouble previously with any of your DVD's, you may wish to consider cleaning the lens of the DVD player itself. Dust, lint and other contaminants can often prevent players from being able to read or even recognize any disc in the player.

Typically, you should be able to clean the lens by using any commercially available CD/DVD cleaning kit. Many major retailers will stock one or more type of kit, which normally resemble DVD's with tiny brushes or grooves on the bottom. These "brushes" should clean the surface of the optical drive by pushing debris away from the lens.

Should cleaning the lens not resolve the issue, there are a number of other problems that may have occurred. These problems generally include possible electrical failures or laser misalignment, and may need to be determined by a factory-authorized technician.

Remember that if you are unsure how to locate a repair technician in your area, you may always bring your player into your local Best Buy™ store for further assistance.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron

Vhs eject will not release tape.

I had a suggestion that did work. Reach into the VHS compartment with left hand and press down toward the back of the tape. With the right hand press the eject button a few times and the tape did come out. I would not buy a Samsung product again. No help from their 800 tech support. No more playing the VHS side of the player. Lynn

Why is my Samsung plasma tv screen becoming dark suddenly meanwhile it's on and still functioning

Hello. You can check HDMI cable in this case. If you're using an HDMI port that's not working well or has been damaged, it could result in a darker-than-usual screen. If you switch the cable or change devices and the TV is at a regular brightness, this is the case.
