I think we have a design problem here; possibly the unit uses a single-beam laser. Here are the symptoms I have found from my V6800.
When I inserted a DVD that had some minor imperfections, I found that the DVD would hang, usually at the same spot. After cleaning the DVD, there was a noticeable improvement, but it still would start to hang at about 38 to 44 minutes.
Although I have not corrected the problem, I did get enough information to pin the blame on the V6800, and not the DVD with the minor imperfections. Here is how I came up with my conclusion:
I took the "defective" DVD to my PC, and made a copy of it.
The copy played perfectly on the V6800.
The "defective" DVD played perfectly on my PC.
CONCLUSION: If you have a DVD in perfect condition, the V6800 will play it without any problem.
I don't like the DVD medium because of the scratch problem. Fortunately the write-once Flash Memory cards will take the place of the DVD in the near future. Watch SanDisk!
Try a DVD lens cleaning disk. I have a problem with my V4500 not recognizing discs. I've used a Fellowes brand lens cleaner. I'm going to try a Discwasher model. Otherwise, the units are junk...costs too much to have repaired. Insane. Too much of this junk in our landfills. Mfgrs should be ashamed they can't build stuff to last more than a year or two.

I have the exact same problem with mine - it will not play the entire DVD - it always freezes up and stops, plays a few seconds and freezes again!
