Your problem may reside in your application "ini" files which have been corrupted or virally infected, you can try the following, please let me know if this helps.

" Normal Reset (*#7780#) : Restores ini files from rom but preserves user data (photos, 3rd party apps etc) "

Computers no longer access the content

There likely are several in the UK, but a couple of the best priced ones are actually in Canada and India.

My personal fave is Armor-IT Data Recovery in Canada, quick and reasonable prices.

Not sure what the shipping time is from UK but from France it was under 4 weeks delivered back to my clients door.

320 GIG Hard Drive now thinks it is an 80 GIG hard drive

Enter your BIOS setup and check what the BIOS sees for hard-drive. It may not be assessing the drive size correctly so you may have to force it by manually entering the data it needs to see the drive.

Need to reformat a WD 320gb 7200rpm HD...windows hosing

A memory error is not caused by the hard drive not being wiped, However to wipe this drive formatting it using this command wipes it unconditionally (format C: /s /u)
This will format it at a lower level if you get a memory error check the memmory modules run a program called Pc doctor or amidiag these programs can be found on the internet by using google.com. If this information helped you please use FIXYA as a rating please never use Thanks nice try this will give us experts a bad rap on here and we would not stay around if we keep getting them thanks Btw, I’m available to help over the phone in case u need at https://www.6ya.com/expert/edwy_1a56970cf1ea4620

External hard drive not recognized

I have a WD3200 usb Hard drive. I am looking to partition it. The problem i encountered is when I go to the disk management, the drive shows up as disk one but below it , it says no media. its like the computer knows that there is an external storage device attatched but cannot access it. Also if I try to get into the disk from my computer, it says "insert disk"

Any suggestions?

I have a 250 Gig

Greetings.

files bigger than 4 gigs cannot be save on fat32 drives. NTFS file system is capable of saving files bigger than 4 gigs.

The MAC - to PC did nothing to change it. It did not change while she look it at her pc.

If u want to be able to copy files bigger than 4 gigs to your drive, change the format to ntfs.

  • It is easy to convert partitions to NTFS. The Setup program makes conversion easy, whether your partitions used FAT, FAT32, or the older version of NTFS. This kind of conversion keeps your files intact (unlike formatting a partition). If you do not need to keep your files intact and you have a FAT or FAT32 partition, it is recommended that you format the partition with NTFS rather than convert from FAT or FAT32. Formatting a partition erases all data on the partition and allows you to start with a clean drive. Whether a partition is formatted with NTFS or converted using the convert command, NTFS is the better choice of file system. For more information about Convert.exe, after completing Setup, click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then press ENTER. In the command window, type help convert and then press ENTER.

Trying to partition internal hard drive, taking along time!

Windows 98 thru Vista will partition format the hard drive during installation. Starting with XP, it can handle partitions over 1GB (1000MB).
If it is a new drive, let windows do a "quick format" during installation.

Western digital read only

You need to get an NTFS file driver such as FUSE. NTFS can be read by OS X but in order to have read and write access to drives other than FAT32, you need a 3rd party file system driver. I have used FUSE quite a bit and it works really well. It is also free.

Cheers.

WD 320 GB shows only 300 GB of usable space

There is no additional 20gb. This is because the manufacturer (WD and the others) express drive size in the decimal (base 10) system. Windows formats the drive in hexadecimal (base 16), which is really ramped up from binary (base 2), which is what computers actually use.

So, 320gb decimal actually equals 300gb, as far as the computer is concerned.

Cheers

the pin which gets inserted into the external hard disk may be
broken. it can be verified by just shaking smoothly on all directions. rest solution after seeing your reply

Cannot partition the c drive

3rd party software like Partition Magic might do it, it's good but not free. However, if you google "best partition software" you might get some good free alternatives. In the worst case a fresh windows installation required. No, that's the second worst case, i think it doesn't aply but in the very worst case you need to wipe your HD totally clean with Boot and Nuke, at least not with the windows, free=ing some space the factory set's aside for recovery purposes. However, this method is drastically, only aply when 100% sure, plus the reserved space can never be that much. A partition tool MIGHT do the job but it sounds like it has some deeper root of the problem. Try google it and hope some1 recognize it (and probably had the same problem or a big brain). Sry i couln't help you more.

Freezing

Mine also spun. It made a clicking noise when it did. I guess it couldn't find the starting sector to locate my data. I read online this is because the heads that read data are stuck together. Freezing can shrink the metal these heads are made of and keeping them cold allows data to be read before they swell again. It won't always work, and you may not even have the same problem.

I had a computer guy tell me to take it all apart and then hook the hard drive up as an IDE slave, but I was nervous as I've never done it before. When the drive had been frozen for about a week or longer, I plugged in another external hard drive (new) that booted up right away into the USB of my computer, then plugged in the bad one next to it. People who know about computers told me that the new one gave the operating system the software it needed to boot up the old one.

There were some videos on YouTube where other people had similar problems and showed solutions. You could try there to see if someone else has your exact symptoms. Good luck!
