How to get my wep

A. Checking the Wireless Settings of the Router

Note: You need to use a computer hardwired to the router to check the wireless settings.

1. Open any web browser like Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox.
2. Connect to the router by typing http://routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm or http://192.168.1.1 in the address field and click Enter or Return key.
3. A window will prompt for a username and password. The default username is "admin" and the default password is "password".

Note: Username and password are case sensitive. If it does not take password as the password, you might have changed it when you ran the NETGEAR Setup CD so please try other passwords.

4. When the setup page opens, click on the Wireless Settings under Setup and take note of the SSID.
5. You may also change the wireless channel here. We suggest channels 1, 6 and 11.
6. At the bottom of the page, look for the Security Options. If in case that the security is set to WEP or WPA-PSK, we have to enter the same wireless security on all wireless PCs. To make sure of the key, we can try modifying the security. Please refer to the following:

For WEP: Select Key 1 and enter 10 hexadecimal digits (0-9 and A-F) on the empty box beside it. Then, click on Apply.

For WPA-PSK: Enter an alphanumeric key (minimum of 8 characters) on the Passphrase box and click on Apply.

Note: The Key and Passphrase are case-sensitive.

7. On the left pane, please scroll down and click on Wireless Settings under Advanced. Please make sure that the boxes for Enable Wireless Router Radio and Enable SSID Broadcast are checked.
8. Click on the Setup Access List button and uncheck the box Turn Access Control On.
9. Click the Apply button.

B. Connecting to the Wireless Network

For Windows XP Service Pack 1:

1. Please right click on the Wireless icon on the right lower end portion of your computer. Then click on View Available Wireless Networks.
2. Click on the Advanced tab.
3. Please delete all the preferred networks then click on OK.
4. Right click on the Wireless icon again and click on View Available Wireless Networks.
5. Please select your network and click on Connect. If you have Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) or Wi-fi Protected Access (WPA) enabled on the router, it will ask you for the network key. Please type in the Network Key and then confirm it.
6. Make sure not to enable IEEE and then click on Connect.

For Windows XP Service Pack 2:

1. Please right click on the Wireless icon on the right lower end portion of your computer. Then click on View Available Wireless Networks.
2. Click on the Change Advanced Settings.
3. Click on the Wireless Networks tab remove all the preferred networks then click on OK.
4. Right click on the Wireless icon then click on View Available Wireless Networks.
5. Select your network and click on Connect.
6. If you have Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) or Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) enabled on the router, it will ask you for the network key. Type in the network key and confirm it. Then click on Connect.

For Windows Vista:

1. Click Start then select Connect To.
2. Connect to a network window will show up.
3. Select your wireless network and click Connect.
4. It will ask you for a network key. Type in the network key and confirm it. Then click on Connect.

Note: You may use the wireless utility of your wireless adapter in connecting to the wireless network but you need to clear "Use Windows to configure my wireless networks" on the Wireless Networks tab.

However, if this does not resolve the issue we will need to get some additional details from you to be able to assist you further. I have summarized my questions below:

1. Can your computer go online when it is hardwired to the router?
2. What wireless adapter are you using?
3. What is the operating system of your computer?

What is my net work key

You may have the KEY written on the actual Router - on a label. otherwise - Connect your PC to the Router with a LAN cable:- You will need to login to your router- you do this by typing a number into a web browser, Internet explorer, is best as some routers do not work with other browsers The way to log into the router is usually to use the IP address, thats a number which will be in the manual -
goto this site http://kb.netgear.com/app/products/family/a_id/1299 and choose your version - there will be a manual available, on the documentation Tab -
To manually log into the router Connect to the wireless router by typing any one of these three URLs in the address field of your browser, then clicking Enter:
  • • http://www.routerlogin.net
  • • http://www.routerlogin.com
  • • http://192.168.1.1
For security reasons, the router has its own user name and password. When prompted, enter admin for the router user name and password for the router password, both in lower case letters.
Goto the wireless section - secruity and you should be able to see the KEY - IF its all * - the you can type in a newone
I would also remove the wireless profile from your PC - to do this have a read of this link. Remove the wireless profiles from your PC http://mgmcc.forumotion.net/networking-tutorials-f17/removing-an-existing-wireless-profile-t109.htm

  • If this solutions solves you problem, please do not forget to rate my solution.
  • If not, then please comment back so I can help some more

Trouble hooking up router

Wireless May need to be turned on in the router if this is wired and wireless router. After your router is hooked up to your net work with any pc that is connected to it by a wire try typing in your webbrowser 192.168.1.1 this should open the routers web based interface. you may need to look through your packaging for your default password or you can try. admin for user name and admin for password or adminadmin for password. you can also look online for your router brand and model for the default username and password. once you have access to the router then you can turn on your wireless settings and set your encryption typ and passwords for others to use if you choose.

I am having problems with my wireless connection disappearing

there maybe a few things you could try 1) see if there is a later firmware update for the router from the manufacturer 2) Loginto the router and remove any wireless encryption - see if that helps 3) It may be wireless interferance and the router is switching channels - download this program and install http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php Then have a look at the channels in use - loginto the router and change channel to one that isnot used - try and use channel 1 or 6 or 11 4) Remove the wireless profiles from your PC http://mgmcc.forumotion.net/networking-tutorials-f17/removing-an-existing-wireless-profile-t109.htm

I have been trying to configure my Netgear WPN824

Are you trying to set up router ?
You can set up your router manually, without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.
