Door wouldn't open on one of those I found - the tiny drve belt at the front under the tray was limp but replacement didn't fix it. Next I tried a bigger motor pulley off an old PC drive - sometimes opened, sometimes didn't. You can remove the bezel off the front of the tray to expose the manual release, you can use a toothpick to press that - sometimes the tray eases after a while and starts working - sometimes you have to give it a shove.
No sound
check the optical cable hd lead or scart cable or change the cable it might be a cable break
There is a dvd in my Lite-on LVW 5045 DVD-HDD
I have had this problem before. All I did to get it to open was turn the power off and then back on and as it is coming on press the open/close button. Sometimes it takes a couple tries to get the timing right but it usually works.

The Optical head unit is faulty. The disc is not being read by the head unit laser and so conveys a wrong message which ejects the cd.
Replace the optical head unit assembly but with the correct procedure.
Dvd tray will not open
Most dvd players have an emergency ejection feature specifically for this reason. Usually it is in the form of a tiny hole on the front of the player near the dvd tray. You can eject the disc by inserting a paper clip into the hole. I wish you luck!

Does'nt matter what disc i place in the player, it
can't read the disk. clean the lens with a dvd/cd lens cleaner (walmart, radio shack, etc.). if you are technically inclined, you can remove the top, remove the transport top, and clean the lens with a soft lint-free cloth (or a q-tip) and rubbing alcohol. wipe the lens off gently and blow it dry. the alcohol will evaporate. put it together and try again. if it still doesn't work, you'll have to replace the entire optical pickup.
Liteon 5045 problem in playing normal movie DVD's
The DVD drives are very unreliable and just get more temperamental with age. I replaced mine with a Lite-On SOHW-1213S. The DVD is too big to fit in the old ones place so it sits on top of the unit with the cable going through the slot, but it works brilliantly.
Can't make dvd's from my recordings
The recorder supports these formats

There shouldn't be a problem with the speed, maybe a compatibility issue with brands.
Also it might be your lens is dirty have you tryed a cd/dvd lens cleaner disk? dry/wet?

Can this copy DVDs to blank DVD?
Copy content from your DVD to the HDD (hard drive) - then copy content from HDD back to a blank disk. Will not copy protected DVD's. You can also download another intruction booklet for it from the Lite0n website.

Common problem probably due to DVD drive gone bad. It can be replaced but not without problems
Can't get reliable recording discs
There actually is a recommended list on Lite-on website but I have used bulk-paq, ridisk and phillips without problems until it stopped reading any alltogether. I recently cleaned it with a DVD cleaner disk and its working properly again. Also on the website is a download for updated firmware which may help in your case.

I think the problem with the tapes stopping is that there is too much tension on the tape. Try another VCR and try to see if you have the same problem playing the tape. Forward and reverse through the part that causes the player to stop. It is also possible that the tape inside the vcr has become twisted or stuck. One can fix this if they are very careful opening the video tape. However, I would not recommend this for most people
