Handle is very hard to turn. what is wrong
First, turn off water supply, then remove screw from center of handle, unscrew cover plate. There is a round mixing valve that will need to be replaced. You can find at any Do it yourself or hardware store. Dont forget to turn off water supply first........
My Moen Tub and Shower
Take the handle back off and rotate the stem one half turn clockwise and put the handle back on.

Your problem is in the water restrictor located inside the shower head. All plumbing manufacturers install these small plastic internal blockers to reduce water down to 2.5 gals per minute. In your case, this restrictor is most likely filled with sediment which is restricting it even further. Remove the shower head from the curved shower pipe. Look inside where the water goes through it. You should be able to see the restrictor. Maybe you can flush out the sediment. Otherwise, remove it and I'm sure you'll get more pressure then originally installed. Because most restrictors are sort of plastic screens or cones, I usually put a wood screw through the center of this product and then once a few threads bite in, I use a plyers on the head or the screw and pull outward while holding the shower head in a stable position. If you are able to get it out, technically your "out of code" because now your going to get all the water it can really supply. Most people are delighted to have it gone.

Removing a moen cartridge
Remove the retaining clip and then take a pair of plier or channel locks to grab the stem and work that stem side to side gently as you pull up or out.
The handle that pulls out
The cartridge needs replaced and or cleaned and if you are going to take it out and clean it just repace it with new abut 20 bucks.
If the stem part does not come out of the valve
There is a fork shaped clip retainer which prevents the valve assembly from popping out, on purpose or accidently.
Even when you remove the fork, you may find it difficult to remove. You should pull it straight out toward you, perhaps using a large channel lock pliers to hold on to the metal center shaft which hold the handle screw. In the past I have found sometimes, very difficult, due to mineral buildup in the cylinder. Having to tap it out - tpping on the plieers.
Hope this helps.
I WAS AWAY FROM HOME
Hi,
Me neither....
Makes no sense whatsoever...even if there was such a thing that would not affect the on/off operation of the faucet...
What would make sense is that he replaced the cartridge that does do the on/off of the faucet...and I could see him charging the 65 bucks for that and then the 110.00 service call....
For some reason it seems that he felt a need to BS your wife instead of telling her the truth...

My Moens One handle tub
If it is an older valve there is a small copper retaining clip that holds the cartridge in place. If this clip broke it could blow cartridge out or come out when you pulled it to turn it on.
If that is the trouble you can see the slot in the top of the valve body where the retaining clip goes. You will need to get a new clip and put the cartridge back in and insert clip to hold it. If you find that you have the hot and cold sides reversed simply turn the stem of the cartridge 180 degrees and you should be in business. Thank you
We have a shower surround
can you get behind the surround?
Install it in the dead center of your cut out. Use 1x1x3" to support the piping behind your wall of the surround. silicone one side of each 1x1 apply to the wall between pipe and wall then use 1/2" copper "two hole straps/clamps" (any hardware guy will know this when you ask for them.) Use 1/4 - 3/8" drywall screws to fasten the pipe straps to the 1x1's. You'll get your stability when you install your escushtion (beauty ring) on the inside of the shower. Will tighten up against your 1x1's.
You'll see,
Enjoy,
Mike.
Ps. Plz leave a remark.
I jhave in my showers
As you look at your valve on the right you will see a large screw fitting.inside this fitting is a temp/ pressure balance spool. it has failed for some reason and needs to be replaced.
On both sides of the valve are 2 smaller screws. these are the water shut off valves.
turn off the water and remove the larger screw fitting. remove spool and replace.
Hope this helps.

There should be a cap on the handle to 'pop' it off and then a philips screw, then remove the plate, and you will see a valve with an adjustment ring, make a mark where it is now, then pull it off carefully, then turn to the right, most systems go to the right. be objective and careful, carelessness in this may result in never finding a happy medium.
