Hi,
Recently I have bought a new MBS 240/E proxxon bandsaw. My goal when
buying this machine was cutting metal sheets (3 mm annealed steel) in
my very small workshop. Because of my room laking problem I thought
MBS 240 E was a perfect choice for my hobby.
After buying this machine and once a new bimetal band saw blade (28
172) was installed I tried several cuts with very good results. After
these tests I started cutting a 3 mm sheet of steel (the same Which I
used for tests) and after some short cuts the saw didn't cut properly
anymore. The cutting is now so slow and became almost impossible. If I
push the workpiece the saw get clogged and I have to switch off the
machine.
I feel very disappointed about how this bandsaw works now.
What is supposed the use of this bandsaw/blade for? Can I cut 3 mm
annealed steel with this tool or it is too much load for this machine
?
Is this machine intended for the use I need? What should be the speed
I must use for cutting such material? What is the proper band saw
blade (14 o 24 dpi)?
I am really worried about my choice and now I am not sure if it was
the best choice. My other proxxon devices works everyday flawlessly.
Please can you give me some answer (advice) for solving my problem.
The 24 TPI is the one to use. It sounds as if the blade is running to fast and over heating the blade and causing it to lose the temper in the balde steel. Try slowing the blade speed down if you can. Also you can try putting some cutting oil on the balde to stop it from clogging up. You can also rig up a small air line to blow on the cutting area to cool it down and remove the metal chips. I've also applied some wax to the blade every so often. A candle will work for this too. Hope this helps you, Jeepfxr
