I am going to paste a list of potential causes for a p0460. There is a cure for a dirty reader card and Ford recommends CHEVRON TECHRON fuel system cleaner. Run tank low, put in cleaner, use best gas you can find, avoid your frequent brand.

P0460 - Fuel Level Sensor Circuit Malfunction The PCM monitors the fuel level input (FLI) circuit for electrical failure. The test fails when the signal moves outside the minimum or maximum allowable calibrated parameters for a specified fuel fill percentage in the fuel tank. Empty fuel tank
Fuel pump (FP) module stuck open
Incorrectly installed fuel gauge
Damaged instrument cluster
CASE GND circuit open
FLI shorted to VPWR
Damaged PCM
Overfilled fuel tank
Fuel pump (FP) module stuck closed
Damaged fuel gauge
FLI circuit open
FLI circuit shorted to CASE GND or PWR GND
CSE GND shorted to VPWR
Monitor FLI PID and FLI V PID in key ON engine RUNNING. FLI PID at 25% fill (with non matching fuel gauge) and FLI V PID less than 0.90 volts [for FLI PID at 75% fill (with non matching fuel gauge) and FLI V PID greater than 2.45 volts] indicates a hard fault.

Last week I had the very same catalyst, evap and ECG codes come up on my 1999 Mercury Mystique which is like a Ford Taurus. A friend was able to find a hole or leak in the hose connected, replaced it and it runs fine. I havent run it a full and straight 50 miles yet to clear the check engine light but that repair alone changed the entire way the car was poorly driving. Im sure that hasnt fixed all the probs but thats a good starting point.

I have a 2002 Ford Taurus and I had my heads and gaskets go bad replaced them seemed to be a pretty simple job but after the installation check engine light came on has rough idle, engine codes were bad...

This is most definatly a grounding issue. Re-Check all grounds. Even check the connections at the PCM. Check for a missing ground ******** the back of the heads. Did you unhook the battery before preforming the tear down? If not you may have fried the PCM.

2002 ford taurus. jerks terribly when accelerating from 40 to 60mpg. Mechanic just told us we had a cracked water pump. Can a faulty water pump cause the car to **** when accelerating?

This sounds more like a misfire problem then a waterpump issue. If the waterpump is faulty it should be replaced before any serious overheating issues occur and damage the engine. As far as the waterpump causing the car to **** would say not likely. Is the check engine light on? If so the codes the vehicle has stored would be a better way to get to the issue. Please feel free to ask any additional questions.

P0460 FORD Description The fuel level sensor is mounted in the fuel level sensor unit. The sensor detects a fuel level in the fuel tank and transmits a signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

It consists of two parts, one is mechanical float and the other side is variable resistor. Fuel level sensor output voltage changes depending on the movement of the fuel mechanical float.
