I have a 1999 Honda Accord. WHen real hot outside generally over 85 degrees hard to start-at times having to press on gas pedal to start. I have been keeping gas cap slightly loose as friend thought it could be vapor lock related. When it is cool not hard to start. I spoke to a mechanic who wondered if it was ignition switch related. No codes were showing up when checked a few weeks ago. Twice in the past week the car died while I was driving-once at a light which was difficult to start again but did with success after releasing pressure out of gas tank. Today while driving it died briefly with indicator lights aglow but I pressed on the gas it kept going without stalling but it was close. No indicator lights are on the vehicle except for the maintenace light. The weather today is around 78 degrees-I am afraid to drive this thing far these days now that the weather is getting warmer here in Michigan. WIll keeping the gas cap slightly ajar without screwing the cap on tightly hurt anything as per the manual it says to keep it on tight. Any suggestions would be greatly appeciated. Thanks!! :)

SOURCE: Fuel pump not coming on

fuel pump operation on your impala is controlled by the computer. It activates the fuel pump relay when ignition is turned on, but only for a few seconds. This is called the fuel pump prime. When the computer senses a crank signal (upon start up) it will activate the fuel pump relay constant. I have found more problems with the fuel pump relay than anything. Vapor lock will not cause a no start unless it is in the fuel lines. GM systems use the manifold air temp sensor to allow for quick starts when hot......increases fuel injector on time. An intermittant fuel pump relay or bad pump will cause a no start any weather.

SOURCE: 83 Rx7 stalls when cold unless I keep applying pedal pressure

these cars are carburated motors and need around 10 minutes to warm up because they operate at higher temperatures.

SOURCE: We have a 2005 Honda crv. Malfunction indicator

Hello Michael.
While your fuel cap may still be an issue there are many other items that may be at fault. It's possible the fuel cap tightening is a coincidence and something else is causing the problem.
There are a few hundred possibilities that could turn on your MIL.
First thing that needs to be done is verify what the code is that turns on the light. If you are in the USA Autozone will give you a free scan to start you off. Then you can begin to home in on the problem.
Best of the festive season to you.

85 HONDA ACCORD WONT STAY RUNNING UNLESS PUMPING GAS NOT EVEN FULL THROTLE

You have a single fuel injector in it right. Try right at the end of the gas pedal cable at the engine there is an electrical plug and a little device that goes around in a circle when the gas is mashed. That is the throttle position sensor. Try unplugging that and if there is no difference in the revving then the throttle position sensor is out. If that is not the problem, then plug your engine into a an onboard diagnostic reader. 85 is an obd1.

same deal, nothing else matters. guessing is total waste of man power and cash.
the first test is to get it to make noise, parked. with brakes hard set
and in drive (A/T or m/t you never said) or in any GEAR.
that be first. if you can , then its 100 x easier to find,.

How do I increase the idle speed on a 1994 honda accord EXR?

There is a adjustment on the throttle body where the gas pedal cable runs into, Just back it off a half turn at a time, Small adjustments make big difference in idle. you can make sure you have the right line by pressing in gas pedal a few times and standing outside leaning towards the engine do this with the car while it is not running to look for the cable you will see it move

My 2003 accord a/c will only blow cold air when i press the gas pedal and will blow hot air the rest of the time.

It sounds like the system is 1) low on refrigerant or 2) needs a new filter dryer.

How to reset fuel pump on 1999 honda accord a/t?, after a repair on fuel pump car idling is poor and seems like to stall if gas pedal is pressed.

I replaced the pump on my 1999 Accord EX V6 and didn't have to reset a thing. The only problem is that the low fuel light doesn't come on every time it should. The poor idling sounds like a different problem like your TPS or the IAC solenoids. Have your local parts store pull codes for you for free if you have a check engine light on.

1988 5 speed Honda Accord

Ensure your spark plugs, wires (ignition coil and spark) and your filters (air and fuel) are within 2 years of installation It's erratic at 800 rpm as the engine is cold and they like the 2200 range for 3 minutes before they kick down on their own. Press the pedal twice before inserting your key. The owners manual states depending on the outside temperature, the engine will require more priming. Update if possible.

1999 honda accord idle problem: Car won't start just turning the key only when pressing the gas pedal down will it start and can hold the rpm at 1+ with gas pedal down but if you let go of the gas pedal it...

Is the engine light on, if so have them read? Take a look the charging system (see if it is above 13volts and below 16volts), see if the gas cap is on firmly and the o-ring on it is in good shape, look at the cars maintenance history and see how long its been since the last complete tune-up. If there are no codes recorded then it would probably be a mechanical issue, Look at coils, fuel pressure, timing, and injectors. If you need more specific info, just let me know, Good luck.
