Is there any other coolant leak?? Preasure test the system... check the oil for any signs of coolant,.. are you fans working at working temp. is your radiator clogged? did you put the thermostat in backwards?

If you are backfiring you should check your firing order... If you have had your Plugs and wires replaced recently then it may have been installed wrong.. also try changing your fuel filter.. or changing the spark plugs
Head seals?? Do you mean head gasket? So it overheats & high idles? It almost sounds like the wrong head gasket was used (its possible) also, if the vehicle overheats, have you looked at the water pump? I would worry about the overheating more than the high idle.
Not a problem but you are in for a wiring harness change, computer change out, possible tranny change, drive shaft mods and any other mismatch items including exhaust. You have to want to do this.......
I guess it really depends on how cold it gets outside as well as how high the RPM's go... If your RPM's are above 3500 RPM's then I do suspect something is wrong, and further info is needed...
