I have a 2005 5.3 Chevy Tahoe. It has about 119,000 miles. About a month ago I noticed a humming sound coming from under the hood. So low that I must turn my radio off and let my windows up to hear. I hear the noise as I accelerate and the noise speeds up as the truck speeds up and slows down as the truck slows down. My power brake booster or hydro booster had a bad seal and I thought that was where the sound was coming from but after changing it out, the noise was still there. I was also told that it was coming from my brake pads because they were too dry on the back side and needed greasing with the grease you put on the back side of the pads during installation. I went ahead and installed new brake pads while I had them off and the sound was still there. I've inspected my tires to make sure the there was nothing rubbing and the tires look great... I'm really at a loss. What makes it so bad is that I only hear the sound when driving and can't duplicate the noise... The only thing I can add is that I just noticed is that my cruise control is not working. Not sure how that unit works but just throwing it in for whomever may be able to assist. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Do you have to be moving before you can hear the noise? If not remove your belt and start your rig and see if you still hear the noise. Don't run it for too long as you may overheat it. If the noise is gone well then you will know that it is something that is driven by the belt such as a idler pulley or tendioner pulley making some noise and may need replaced. Worn belts can make noises. A bearing going out in an alternator can make your noise. Water pump? AC compressor? If the noise is still there with the belt off then you know to look elsewhere. Check your wheel bearings and front CV joints and axles.

Low pitch humming noise

May well be. You might want to check your coolant. If you're low (but not yet overheating) your fan will come on more often.

Sounds like you are having a problem with the starting motor. When activated, it throws out a gear to engage with the flywheel on the end of the engine. If there is not enough energy to fully engage the gear, or the gear does not engage properly due to misalignment, you may hear a grinding noise. Have the starting motor serviced or replaced.

Coolant leak chevy tahoe 02

If the coolant is in the cab they did not cause the problem changing the manifold gasket. It sounds like the heater core has failed, which is under the dash.

Water Pump replacement and then PO332 code ~ knock sensor

Sounds like you have several problems. The P0332 sounds like you got your knock sensor wet and needs to be replaced. When you do make sure you replace the wire harness also and that you seal around both sensors. Also remove the back near fire wall foam under the intake mani to let the water that collects evap out.
