This motors are hard to get set right even if you marked the distributor for the computer to be able to function right and control the the engine right the distributor needs to be set between -1 and + 1 this leaves no room for error and final placement is usually done with a diagnostic computer

but what you need first is how to get it back in the ball park they will run being off quite a bit but just not very well once you get it up and running u need to take it to someone or somewhere that has a diagnostic computer

Ok now what you need to do is get #1 cylinder on TDC(top dead center ) of the compression stoke put a compression tester into cyl #1 Turn motor over my hand (use socket and ratchet) on crank pulley bolt until you start to read compression on gauge take gauge out and contiune to turn motor over slowly until number piston is at top now put distributor in so when u put the cap back on the rotor is pointing at the number one post on the distributor cap

NOTE: the distributor cap on these motors look at the bottom of the cap you notice where the post for the number 1 cyl is not directly under where u put on the number one plug wire when lining up rotor aim for the post under the cap not where u put the plug wire

I have a 02 Chevy tahoe....it sounds like coolant rushing throughout the engine while sitting at an idle and about every 2 or 3 days I gotta add coolant its not much also the low coolant light comes on...

I would perform a coolant pressure test because these engines are known for leaking intake manifold gaskets.Check and see if your oil is starting to turn a creamy tan color.

Intake torque on top & bottom bolts

Apply sealer to the lower intake manifold bolts prior to installation. On the 5.0L and 5.7L engines, install the bolts and torque in sequence as follows:
Step 1: 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
Step 2: 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
Step 3: 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).

Upper intake manifold mounting bolts/studs, torque in a crisscross pattern as follows:
  1. Step 1: Torque the bolts/studs to 44 inch lbs. (5 Nm).
  2. Step 2: Torque the bolts/studs to 83 inch lbs. (10 Nm).

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Where is the tps on 2003 chevy tahoe 4.8 v-8?

It is mounted to the throttle body where the air comes into the intake manifold it is round and black and has wires going to it. You may have to remove the air intake tube at the throttle body at the top center of the engine to change it. It has to be adjusted properly make sure you mark the position so you get it back the same spot

I have an intake leak where the 2 gas lines go into the intake, what would cause this and how do i repair it? the engine was recently removed and replaced if that helps and it is on a 1998 chev tahoe with...

you will have to remove upper intake plenum the black plastic part there is a o-ring around the area you are speaking of. now if this engine didn,t have the intake gaskets replaced before installing now would be good time because if you keep vehicle believe me you will have to do sooner or later these engines came with plastic intake gaskets that are notorious for leaking to do this you will njeed to remove both upper and lower intake manifolds I just started a job on 99 tahoe today before lunch and customer is driving tonight replaced upper and lower intake gaskets fel-pro makes updated gaskets for this engine that has thick metal shim and rubber gaskets a great improvement that ends this problem as for your vacuum leak at opening for fuel lines don,t see often but is possible hope this helps

HOW TO REPLACE INTAKE MANIFOLD ON A LINCOLN

answer , very carefully ...

drain coolant , remove and mark all vacuum lines , make a schematic to diagram your hose routing, disconnect and plug all fuel lines, remove distributor and mark location of rotor, disconnect battery, remove any necessary cables, brackets and or accesseries, remove intake mounting bolts, note length of bolts and reference location, pry up on intake , remove intake, scrape old gasket off , must be very clean to reinstall new gasket or you will cause a leak..

My 1999 chevy tahoe is leaking antifreeze. I

it could but- check passenger side front where heater core line go into manifold right behind alternator the hose line is connected by a press clip into an alloy fitting this fitting gets eaten away by anti freeze and hose angle pulls back on fitting the part is $18 at dealer and is screwed into manifold use caution if ur r going to replace at very edge of aluminum manifold---and check ur water pump bolts the 2 longer ones should have a lock sealant on them they bolt in thru a water jacket

I have a 97 chevy tahoe. I changed the spark plugs, wires, distrubutor cap, rotor. About 300 miles later engine light came on. I thought maybe cheap distrubutor cap and rotor was cheap. I went to auto zone...

the number 6 cylinder is located (if you are looking at it from the front of the car) it is on the left side third cylinder back from the front. you probally have a bad injector that is just dripping fuel into that cylinder.

Air conditioner problems

If the air blows from the derfost and the footwells, then their may be a vacuum leak. Check under the hood there should be a vacuum line that goes from the firewall to a vacuum port on the intake manifold. Alot of times the line get corroded and breaks off.(If you find the pcv hose you are in the right direction)
