Might just have to replace the lock itself.

2000 cadillac deville driver side won't open with the key

1) Key turns but dose not unlock door. This means that the rod that goes to the back of the lock has came off. This also means that is the reason door is not unlocking with the remote as it pops the lock rod inside the door which pushes the lock open.
2) Key does not turn lock at all but works passengers side door. This means that the locks has been changed in the door, but that doesn't sound like the problem as you say the remote doesn't open the drivers side door so more than likely the rod has came off the back of the lock

2004 honda accord driver side lock won't open remote

driver side has most use and breaks down quickest.
Typically, the lock wears, and should be oiled using graphite powder, not oil, as with most outdoor locks.
However, in winter moisture turns to ice and freezes lock.
In this case, try to squirt lock de-icer (usually this is methyl alcohol or some other type).
Don't use an alcohol (such as from drugstore) that also contains water.
that would make matters worse.
If you spray enough lock deicer or even a high-quality penetrating oil, you may be able to work key and lock to a point where you can turn it.

Don't force key rapidly or too strongly, as it will bend, and may break off in lock.

You can spray some alcohol or penetrating fluid on the key to work it into the lock better.
Sometimes, you can get at a frozen lock mechanism by spraying down into **** between window and metal door from above lock.
Sometimes, you might find that the door itself is frozen,
or the lock latch is frozen, and not the key-tumbler.
In this case, you can try body-checking (not kicking) the door,
to loosen the frozen edges around door and window.
If you can get into car from other side, you can sometimes open it from inside to break ice-jam.

If this is an electrical problem
(only remote doesn't work)
The likely cause is broken wire in wire-harness from car body to door.
There will usually be a group of wires either inside a cable or bundled in a rubber tubing, going from car to door at front between hinges.
Here is where the electrical connection will be broken,
because the wires break eventually as they get flexed over and over.

IN this case, the only permanent fix is to find the wire (it will be color-coded), and replace at least 6 inches of that wire (it will probably be broken inside insulating sheath.)
Alternately, there may be an open-circuit at connector to door-latch solonoid. Here you might get lucky if you get inside door-cover off and wiggle or re-insert the plug connector.
Also possible that solenoid is just burnt out or open-circuit.
In that case it must be replaced, for the remote signal to effectively open door lock.

Wife taken clio to work with the spare key (no button), she has tried to lock the car but only the passenger side locks, the drivers side is unlocked, how can she lock the drivers door?

Hi,

As you have not stated the Year of Manufacture, I will provide the following possibilities:

Firstly, your wife must be using a sub-key (if no remote function). So, you need to determine if this was a factory supplied sub-key, or was a re-cut duplicate of the master key.

Secondly, the 'most used' key will usually wear out over time (and the driver's barrel lock will sometimes wear in accordance with the most used key), which would mean only that key will operate that door barrel lock successfully.

If the sub-key has not worn to the same degree, chances are the sub-key may not be able to engage properly when inserted into the driver's door lock.

This is common when using a sub-key - sometimes a sub-key won't start the car, but turning the key upside down will often operate the ignition. The same principle would apply to the driver's door lock also.

The key will often operate the door lock if you only insert it about 95% of the way , or simply turn the key upside down and try again.

If the key refuses to operate the driver's door, the other alternative is to enter via the passenger side and reach over to lock the driver's door from the inside. Then lock the passenger door behind you.

However, this is a major hassle, so I would recommend you obtain a replacement Renault key "FOB" remote (you can get these off Ebay reasonable cheaply - supplied with instructions) and program it to your vehicle yourself. This will enable both of you to have a central locking remote key fob.

Note: the remote fob programming feature will obvioulsly depend on the year of manufacture for your vehicle though.

My manual key won't lock and unlock my door

hii how are you sur

it can't be the valet key beacuse the valet key works the opposite...It opens the doors but not the trunk. That model car has almost like a "double lock" on the trunk. If you put the non-valet key in the trunk keyhole and turn the key all the way to the right and remove the key while turned all the way to the right it will lock and re-lock the trunk to where the valet key will not be able to open it. They made it that way so you can lock pesonal items in your trunk, keep the original key, give the valet the valet key, and the valet cannot open the trunk. You might want to check the lines for the central lock system by the Drivers side door for a leak. That system is ran by a pneumatic pump located under the back seat. Does the key work in the front passenger's door? If so then its probably the actual lock on the drivers side door. Hope this helped you out.

good luck

accept the regards

2004 Civic Drivers door lock

The driver's side door lock button is designed not to lock from the inside unless the handle is pulled, or the power switch is used. This serves as a reminder to not lock your keys inside.

If you are inside, and push down on the button (not the switch) hard enough to lock it, you've probably damaged it.
