My truck will run good for a few miles than the engine will start stuttering while driving and loosing power. I installed a new fuel pump and it still stutters, idles rough, back fires and the idle is inconsistant.
The check engine code showed a massive evac leak. Could a leak in a Evac hose cause all this trouble? The check engine code showed a massive evac leak. Could a leak in a Evac hose cause all this trouble?

Fuel pump bad, something in the fuel tank blocking inlet screen, filter partially plugged, is it over heating? Does it stutter and die or what, need much more info. Does it start back up after sitting a few minutes?
I'd have to test when problem is ongoing. When you first turn on key, no crank, you should hear the pump run for a few seconds then stop. For initial prime, the computer doesn't need rpm signal. Engine cranking, the computer needs to see rpm signal or it won't ground the fuel pump relay. W/o rpm signal, no spark at the plugs and no fuel injector pulse. I know your talking about fuel, but, when problem is ongoing, check spark and fuel injector pulse, engine cranking.
Intermittent problems are a pain, have to test when problem is ongoing.
Hi, it sound like your engine is stalling, causing the battery light, steering, and brake issues. I would not be as concerned about these items, as I would the engine stalling. If you have an overall low idle condition, and the engine stalls as a result, I would clean the throttle body, as a carbon build up may be causing this. If the engine just stalls at will, you may have a faulty fuel pump, causing low, or no pressure. If this is a diesel, You should have a scanner put on, as it cuold be a number of things. Good luck...Coop
Was the fuel tank cleaned out when the pump was replaced? You could be sucking up garbage from the bottom of the tank to the fuel pump strainer causing the loss of power, Then your shut it off and the garbage comes of the strainer and you have power again
i had an ra65 celica.... fuel pump shat its self and bad news its located in the tank im sure i dropped the tank down to get to it but pull up the carpet in the back n check 4 an inspection plate... take a fuel line off the engine put some rag over it n get some one to turn the ignition on n with a working fuel pump you should have fuel **** out if not your pump is faulty or your wiring is corroded or damaged.. also check fuse..good luck
