A Mechanic told me my switch was broken, but the switch was working fine, the lights just stopped flashing. After some research and consulting with a male friend who knows more about this than I, we discovered it was only the turn signal flasher -- a $16.00 part. On the 2000 model, it's located under the dash, on a separate fuse panel I didn't even know was there. It's to the left of the steering column and right behind the main fuse box, but you can only get to it by going up under the dash. The green one is a little hard to get to, but that's the one for the hazard lights. Its easy to see with a good shop light. It's 1" by 1" ish. The turn signal flasher is below the green one. It's black and a little smaller, and much easier to get to. You simply unplug it and plug the new one in. Voila! There are other fuses on this panel -- I'm not sure what they go to, but I intend to find out so I don't waste money replacing parts I don't need to.

I have an updated answer regarding the turn signal flasher. It is, actually, the same flasher as the hazard lights. If it's still the original, it's green and a little hard to get to. The flasher has two circuits, one for the hazards, and one for the turn signal. One can go out without the other being affected, but if one goes out, you have to replace the whole flasher. It's $11.99 at Checker (I'll NEVER shop at Auto Zone again!!) vs Auto Zone's $15.99 -- and the guy at Checker even put it in for me.... The small fuse below the flasher is what I thought controlled the turn signals, but it doesn't. I have no idea what that controls, but intend to find out. If anyone knows, please post. Hope this helps!!

This solution worked perfectly. I went back to my mechanic with the $14.99 part from Advanced Auto. Hooray for fixya.com!!!!

My 2000 Durango signal lights were malfunctioning for many months. After reading the update, I replaced the original OEM (green) hazard flasher and all is well now. This article was truly a blessing to me in a recession were money is tight. The part cost me $17 at AutoZone. Thanks to everyone.

  • gazoo_2 Feb 07, 2011

Yeah!! I went to Pepboys. Tridon EP27 did the trick.

  • jrogers638 Feb 20, 2011

I changed the turn signal flasher--$15.99 at ADVANCE AUTO. Worked like a charm!! Thanks

I have a 2000 Dodge Durango and we have been having blinker problems too lately. Sometimes they worked, sometimes they didnt, and the other day they went out completely. They have been doing this for a couple months now. It first started out as making a weird sound, when turned right or left, for a second or two, then it would stop and the blinker would turn on. Eventually, the noise got louder, lasted longer causing the blinkers to delay until noise stopped, and now they do not work at all. When i turn them on, left or right, they just make that loud annoying sound and do not flash or click at all. However, my hazards work fine. Whats the problem here?? I saw a couple answers regarding a...signal flasher? and a few others regarding the relay(??), blinker module, and fuses...can anyone tell me which it is?? Please?! :)

I've read EVERY post on this subject, and wanted to "chime in" -- just in case I'm able to help someone else as so many of you helped me today. After reading all the previous posts, here, I decided to just replace the green plug; THAT DID THE TRICK! Previously, my signals have been dying for a long time now... but the flashers have worked flawlessly. Recently, the signals quit working entirely... not even an occasional flash or two. The replacement unit, from O'Reilly, was black... but everything is great now! I have flashers AND SIGNALS! It's good to have turn signals working as they used to, especially in heavy traffic. In my case, the problem was with my 1998 Durango.

Okay bottom line I was having the same problem with my turn signals, I have a 2000 Dodge Durango 5.9L engine. So earlier this week my signals would only blink maybe 2 to 3 times then shut off. This is what I did, I asked the guy at Schucks of course he couldn't figure it out; guy at Napa tried telling me because my flasher fuse is the same for hazards and turn signals that couldn't be it. DON'T LET THEM TELL YOU BECAUSE THEY ARE THE SAME FLASHER THAT CAN'T BE IT. I changed my flasher and now my turn signals work again. I did it on my own, its under the left side of the steering column and its green (well mine was) 1" x1" cube looking. If you can't find it try using your turn signals to hear the click. That solved my problem!

Adalton23 Thanks. I did exactlly what u said and mines works too.... your advice was more helpful then auto Zone employees. They told me there is no such thing for my truck. shows what they know thanks.

i was looking on here the same time as i was on phone with dodge dealler and this info is correct. for a 2000, napa will tellyou that there are two of them, like they told my husband, but there is not. they are the same green fuse. there r 5 relays in that one fuse, just means that some of them are burnt out. Dealer told me about 44.00 and should be fixed!!!!!! Way to go Adalton23

Check the relay, or the blinker modual under the dash, the modual looks like a small canaster the width of a quarter, it is also the flasher modual, turn the blinker on to locate it. you will hear the clicking under the dash, when you find it pull them out and goto pepboys or autozone or any parts store and get new ones, they go bad after a while, but it could be a bad batch of the flasher moduals,
replacing this should work for you, if not pick up a new relay and replace that to, then you have all new parts for the blinkers.
the relays are located under the hood on the driverside it has a top cover on it so pop the cover off and in the top of it just like the fuse panel will tell you the relay location.

Have you checked your fuses for the turn signals? They would be under the hood, in a fuse box. If those are fine, check your connections. If all fails, you're looking at a new Turn Signal assembly. Get it at a junk yard. Save money.

  • Anonymous Apr 04, 2009

They will blink 2 - 3 times you said? That rules out fuses. Sure I guess, check the relay as said by dj524. Although, if it was a relay issue, it wouldnt blink at all. I will research this to help you out.

that vehicle has a desperate relay for the hazards which is why they work, you have a defective signal flasher sometimes called a signal relay, follow the noise to locate exactly where the part is, usually under driver side of dash, it is a very cheap part and easy to install.

2000 Durango, signals will not work

I too have a 2000 durango - I had a signal light problem for over a month - we could not figure it out. I automatically thought it was the steering column. Sometimes the signals would work...mostly the left signal would not come on or blink only a few times. After bulb changes, looking at fuses and wiring connections - we replaced a small signal relay located way under the dash [had to remove a small dash section underneith the driver's side] It is extremely difficult to reach -a few scraped knuckles - but once we changed it - the $40 part was the issue.
