I just purchased struts (similar to stock) for $140 at Pepboys, and they wanted about 150.00 to install them. I can't see a bearing costing that much. What am I missing that is costing $500? Bearing grease and possible alignment?

What is the best way to replace the front struts on my 02 camry 4cyl. They're fully assembled.

you have to remove the struts completely and remove the insert from the top
install the new inserts and replace
the workshop manual has detailed instructions and photos on how to do the job
of course the best way is to take it to an accredited front end specialist shop and have the job done professionally
time taken will be approx 2 hours and cost will be labor and new insert prices
they may even include a wheel alignment in the job quote

Rear wheel bearings

Get a different shop to check all of the suspension components - if the struts both snapped, something is going on that's a much bigger concern than the wheel bearings. Look for bent control arms and other suspension components - check clearances and bushings everywhere in the rear, make sure nothing was installed backwards or forgotten. Struts don't just snap, and bearings should definitely not die every couple thousand miles. Also, have a dealer look at it, to make sure that things are installed properly. It won't be cheap there, but they might notice something that other shops routinely miss. I hate suggesting that ANYONE go to a dealership for service, but in this case, they're the most likely to notice something out of spec...

2003 jetta gls rumble in the front end

sounds like a gearbox bearing ,,,this sounds like a growling noise usually when accelerating although as the problem gets worse it can happen constantly ,,, wheel bearings can growl too but will give a constant noise regardless of acceleration ,,, you need to see to this quickly as the more you drive you will cause more damage and cost to you ,,,,bearings will fix it in the early stages but if more damage is done you could have to pay for new gears and shafts which is expensive

The piece that holds up the front passenger wheel (i believe its called a strut), is bent or broken, would u happen to kno how much that would approx. cost? its a 2002 chrysler sebring

$61 at autozone:
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/Gabriel-Ultra-Shock-Strut-Front/2002-Chrysler-Sebring/_/N-jh9olZ8oxxw?counter=0&filterByKeyWord=strut&fromString=search&itemIdentifier=602085_6880_2457_4299

The strut must be compressed for mounting. Labor is approximately 2 hours. Not sure what labor costs in your area or if your shop will allow you to bring strut or require you to buy from them.

How to fix my front driver strut

front struts... about $500 for the pair if you do the "quick strut" which will replace the springs, struts and bearing

if you do just the struts around $300 but then you'll be paying a lot more latter when the springs and/or bearings fail

Noisy front end. any little bumb sends rough sound. the car rides great. I cannot stand the noise. I am about to change the struts, the sound is more a suspention point that is set up.

Before you change the struts check the stabilizer linkages and bushings. They will make a lot more noise a lot easier than a strut will. Also check the torque on the strut bearing bolts that go up through the strut tower. While the car is sitting, Push down hard on the front end and listen for where the noise is coming from. Other possible sources of the noise are the lower ball joints or the strut bearing. If you are changing the struts, change the strut bearings as well. You don't want to have to unbolt everything again if they go bad in ten thousand more miles. Good luck.

I have a Jetta 99 GLS w/197K. I took the car to the mechanic and they said it was the compressor. Repairs are approx 1K. My question is, can the car be driven as is? I do not know what is the corrleation...

I presume the compressor you refer to is the air conditioner compressor.
If so, the car can be usually be driven as normal so long as you don't operate the air conditioner cooling. With the air conditioner off, the compressor is not in use.
If the fault with the a/c compressor is with the front bearing (drive noise or belt squeal) you may need to remove the drive belt.

99 camery solara...ratlingnoise front left wheel,

Strut tops are a common failure on the 97-01 era Camry/Solaras.

They will make a hollow rattle sound whenever you hit bumps or uneven pavement.

They can be replaced one at a time, and do not require strut replacement if your old struts are still in good shape.
Replacement does require a strut compressor and an alignment afterwards, placing it outside the scope of most do-it-yourselfers.

It is labeled "suspension support" in the following diagram. The bearing below it is typically replaced at the same time.

Mazda 3 2004 front end struts shot

front end problems are not very uncommon becuse of the way we drive and where we drive, the front struts take quite a beating on the road thus giving us all the smooth comfortable painless noise less ride !!.

today the actual labor rate is soring and that is the reason for your big bills yet a reasonable price i would pay would be around $90 per side and the part will be around 200 for both front struts thus for a total of $400 for the front look into deals given by most auto speciality shops such as goodyear or pep boys but always ask for them to return your old parts to you this will be a good price around $400 - 450. for the front.

the noise you hear while you turn either to left or to the right while you are driving is bad front wheel bearings see if these are servicable bearings and if they are they can be cleaned and repacked with grease if they are sealed bearings then the bearings have to be replaced.
