There real bad on the auto matic tranmistions going out on them alot of times it is the low gear pack that goes out. the low gear pack also has reverse in it so when the trans goes out it no longer shifts right. and it will not give any warning on doing such so u need a new transmision

Why stopped at light went to move and would not. i moved the shifter several times then it move but jerked.

Check the transmission fluid level first and make sure it's full. If it is full then a trip to a transmission shop would be the next step. It's quite possible that a simple fluid and filter change may fix the problem.

1998 malibu transmission slipping when it is cold

Sounds like a servo seal (o-ring) in the trans itself. If the seal leaks, it will not allow the proper pressure to build in the circuit that engages bands and clutches. I see a trans rebuild in your future.

It runs, but wont move

check transmission fluid... if full replace transmission filter (inside transmission) if that fails, then the entire transmission will probably have to be rebuilt or replaced.

Pontiac sunfire shifts into other gears but wont engage

First, check transmission fluid level, if low may not be able to pump, may need trans filter and fluid change.

'02 alero 5 spd wont engage gear

My first question is - have you had the trans filled with fluid ?
If the fluid level is now normal, and you can't shift the gears, you may have damaged the main shaft inside the trans.

Shifter wont shift

Hi there:
When you say it will not shift into gear, do you mean the shifter doesn't move out of the park position or the shifter moves into the gear ranges but the trans doesn't engage and move the car.

First I suggest checked the fluid level, is it full or low or maybe high, check it with the engine running,

Could be a problem with the torque converter or valve solenoids.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

1999 ford taurus.....wont go into any gear..is it the transmission?

if the shifter wont move with brake pedal pushed ck , shift interlock, brake pedal switch, and key interlock. if the shifter moves and trans does nothing ck cable underhood at trans for operation if working yes you have trans problem . ck fluid to see level or if burnt fluid will smell real bad if low trans wont work right.and a trans can fail with out setting any engine or trans codes.so ck engine light wont come on. there is some times a release by the shifter a small cover you pull off and stick a key or small screw driver in slot and shifter will move.

Transmission trouble

You would have to verify that the shifter is moving the lever on the drivers side of the transmission. If it is moving the lever and the fluid is full then the transmission will need to be pressure tested to determine the cause of the problem.

Automatic transmission wont catch into any gear

You sould have been moore frequent on your transmission fluid changes, and you shouldn't have taken it to Jiffy Lube either. Your best bet is to drain and fill the trans fluid run it shift gears. Drain and fill again. Do this 3 times. Yeah the transmission fluid is expensive. on the last drain and fill you want to get a bottle of LUBE GUARD from NAPA or who ever sells it. put the whole 10oz bottle in. Shift Rev, 1, 2, 3, D. Neutral Rev D. If that don't work then you have bad seals.
