My 1999 dodge diesel p/u has a code 0216 problem.

excessive fuel and if turbo operation , failing turbo
check for excessive fuel pressure , leaking injector seals
turbo not operating

you need diagnostics scanner to read the engine light for the code, this will then indicate what problem is.

Seals leaking on turbo see if the shaft through the turbo has up and down movement if so replace turbo.

Could be head gasket, piston, or other nasty issue. Smoke isn't a good sign. Run a compression check, that may help indicate where the problem is.

chech to make surew the hoses are on the turbo if they come off you will loose the turbo.

is it a gas engine or a diesel? it could mean two different things depending on the fuel type. black smoke in a diesel is either an air of a fuel problem. in a gas truck there should never be black smoke. it may be a dark blue smoke which is burning oil.

200000 miles on a engine is gamble.if you had 5.9 diesel engine.you have more miles left on it.if you buy 200000 miles vechicle look for sign blue smoke or heavy white smoke.make sure you have good power going up hill good,throttle response have no flat spots,make sure engine not missing,and knocking.if all is good buy, just dont pay a too much money have too too many miles on it.buy as is no warranty.

2001 7.3 TURBO DIESEL ,CRANKS WHITE SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE TURBO, AND THE TAIL PIPE NO START

Dont be lazy no easy soloution ,head off and have a look

if idling rough sound like air in system.and your injection pump timing is off.
