Black smoke in a petrol driven car usually indicates a low air intake problem and fuel and air mixture is a problem or oil in the piston chamber. Diesel cars indicate worn diesel injectors.

SOURCE: 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan horn and Cruise control

I recently had the same issue, but my airbag warning lights also turned on. If this is the case, it might be the clockspring. There is a recall on clocksprings for Caravans 1998 - 2000 I believe. I got it replaced for free in the dealership. Enter your VIN in this site and it will tell you if you are covered in the free replacement warranty.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: model 2002 dodge grand caravan sports dashboard

If you look under the dashboard on the driver's side, there is a fuse panel. Under this panel is the BCM(body control module). There may be a bad relay in the bcm. Worse case scenario is a bad BCM. I hope this information is helpful to you, Good luck.

I have a 1999 Dodge Caravan Sports with a 3.3 L engine. Brought it with a new alternator in the box inside. Van run fine until this guy put the new Alternator on and I drove it run out rough dumps 3/4 tank...

The alternator is used to charge the battery. There is no reason to believe the replacement has caused the fuel utilization problem, or smoke from the tail pipe, or rough running engine. A good mechanic should be able to examine your engine and find the problem. White smoke could be valves or piston rings worn out. There are many things that cause rough running engine. Fuel mixture controls, fuel leak, faulty timing, there is a long list. Good luck.

2003 Dodge grand caravan 6chlyder having black smoke. what should i due to stop it.

Black smoke is caused by an overly rich fuel/air mixture. This will cause your Dodge to use excess fuel and can damage the catalytic converter. The Check Engine light should be on at this time. I suggest you take it to a professional for repair.

Your engine is toast. The black smoke indicates more than likely your valve seals are leaking oil into the combustion chamber or the piston rings are shot.
