Roughly 4 possibilities. First to check would be ignition switch, by determining if power getting to coil when key turned on. Second would be coil. These days you have to take it in, but most part places will check it for free. Third it the control module. Same advice. Forth is the distributer pickup. Same advice again, except put the engine on TDC and mark the pointing of the rotor on the shaft, so that you can put the distributer back in more easily.

Why wont my 1996 ford explorer start it turns over but wont start

You need to determine whether or not it is getting fuel and spark. It needs both to start. Remove one plug wire and hold it close to the engine while someone cranks it over. There should be spark from the plug wire. If there is spark, you will have a fuel supply issue. Possible fuel pump/relay/wiring/fuel filter/injectors not working to name a few. If no spark, possible crank sensor/ignition module/wiring.

My 2002 jetta will crank but wont start

turn your key to the on position and see if you hear the fuel pump kick on, if so and you have gas in the vehicle then you should check to see if you have spark at the plugs. you can remove the sparkplugs one by one and check for spark by grounding out the end of the plug and cranking for just a few seconds. if you dont have spark it will be in either the spark plugs, the plug wires, or the coil packs.

My Ford cranks but wont start

A 2002 model gas engine would have direct spark which means each spark plug has a coil attached to it.
Have you pulled a couple of coils to test for spark ?

Why is my 2002 Ford Explorer V8 cranks but won't start?

No spark or no gas. Are you sure the gas gauge acurrate? When you turn the ignition key from Off to Run, but not all the way to start, listen carefully for the sound of the fuel pump. If you don't hear anything, check the fuse. If the fuse is good the pump may be bad.

Remove a spark plug wire and hold the metal end close to [but not touching!] a metal ground [use a pair of insulated pliers to keep from possibly getting shocked. Have a helper crank the engine. If you see a spark, the ignition is probably ok, although that's not 100% certain, as the timing or dwell angle could still be off.

Good luck!

2002 blazer crank but wont start

2 things that you have to check on no starts every time. Spark at spark plug and fuel. Turn key to run position and listen at gas tank for fuel pump to run you should hear a whining noise. This will only happen for 3 to 4 seconds then it will shut off until engine starts. You can turn key off then to run every 3 to 4 to listen for fuel pump. You may hear the relay click off in engine area even if pump does not run. Fuel pump failure is pretty common. If pump is running pull spark plug out or put a spare plug into spark plug wire and have someone crank engine set plug on engine and watch for spark. This will give you a starting point. Hope it helps.

Car not starting

This car has anti-theft system in it. The key is "special" in that it has a chip inside that is programmed to work only with that car. Get a new key, recently? See the dealer for help...accordianman
