It is probably your ignition wires. When moisture can penetrate the wire it shorts is out. Check them for cracking and especially where they are close to the exhaust manifold. I hope it is due for a tune up, this should take care of the problem. If not, you may have a dirty connection in the ignition circuit. Check all you connectors for corrosion and spray them out with a penetrant/moisture chasing lubricant.

11 years later April 2021, the above answer from Stan P. repaired my problem on my 1994 Jeep Cherokee Sport. I took it to a repair shop but they didn't want to do anything to it unless the problem was presenting itself. The only thing that was presenting itself at that moment was that the intermittent windshield wipers settings were not working.

I had given up on the intermittent windshield wiper settings believing the motor was probably broken, but I was wrong, so anyway, Stan, P., if by some miracle you should see this 11 years later, THANK YOU!!! Your expert guess coupled with the auto repairman not wanting to try a tuneup and then having my son do it instead saved me $100 on a tuneup. I didn’t want to ask my son to do it because he is always so busy. I love my old Jeep! Thank you, again!

I hae a 1993 Jeep Cherokee Sport. It starts fine

What you have is a crankshaft position sensor that is breaking down under a hot condition .Also the sensors electromagnetic field is leaking out electrodes so when it rains for a while and the air is very damp this basically shorts out the sensor. The sensor is located on the back side of the engine, drivers side were the transmission and engine come together. I hope this will help!

1998 jeep cherokee wont start on first try but does on the second

try turning the ignition key on and off two or three times before cranking. If it starts right away your fuel pump in the tank is starting to go bad. a pressure tester can be hooked to the fuel rail to see if pressure is coming all the way up on the first turn of the key

My 1994 jeep sport 4l won't start it won't start for the first time when I washed it at the car was washed under neath and under hud, left it runnung, then shut it of and it would'nt start. next day it...

You should never wash your engine. It can really mess with the computer sensors. However since you now have a problem in the rain, I'd change the wires, cap and rotor. (likely old and sensitive to humidity) Also, look at your ignition coil in the dark...if you see any spark or electrical "haze" where the coil wire goes in, change the coil.

1998 Jeep Cherokee Larado starts sometimes and wont start others

check for dirty / bent pins on connector. check wires at harness side of pins for any corrosion. Problem is likely not the computer, based upon what you've said.

1998 Jeep Cherokee won't start?

I need to confirm some information. The engine is rotating, just not starting, right? When you put the key into the "on" position, do you hear the fuel pump prime itself? You'll hear a hum sound for a couple of seconds. If not, spray some starting fluid into the throttle body and see if the engine starts. If it does start with the starting fluid, then shuts off again, the fuel pump or the fuel pump relay is bad. I'd change the relay first, if that doesn't help, the fuel pump is bad.
