I have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee that wont start when it is damp or raining. Otherwise starts right up. Bad Coil?
It is probably your ignition wires. When moisture can penetrate the wire it shorts is out. Check them for cracking and especially where they are close to the exhaust manifold. I hope it is due for a tune up, this should take care of the problem. If not, you may have a dirty connection in the ignition circuit. Check all you connectors for corrosion and spray them out with a penetrant/moisture chasing lubricant.
11 years later April 2021, the above answer from Stan P. repaired my problem on my 1994 Jeep Cherokee Sport. I took it to a repair shop but they didn't want to do anything to it unless the problem was presenting itself. The only thing that was presenting itself at that moment was that the intermittent windshield wipers settings were not working.
I had given up on the intermittent windshield wiper settings believing the motor was probably broken, but I was wrong, so anyway, Stan, P., if by some miracle you should see this 11 years later, THANK YOU!!! Your expert guess coupled with the auto repairman not wanting to try a tuneup and then having my son do it instead saved me $100 on a tuneup. I didn’t want to ask my son to do it because he is always so busy. I love my old Jeep! Thank you, again!
