I'm not sure if this has anything to do with your problem.. but in 2002 there was a recall on the 01 & 02 santa fe's w/ the 2.7L engine for improperly manufactured crankshaft position sensors and internal gaps within the cases allowing epoxy to contact the printed circuil board, which resulted in cracking of the printed circuit board capacitor. A damaged capacitor could result in engine stalling. Recall campaign number 03V030000

More maintenance history required. Did this happen ALL OF A SUDDEN? The possible causes are numerous (i.e., ignition, fuel, fuel pressure, vacuum leak, valve timing, timing belt, crank position sensor, bad plugs, bad ignition wires, ECM failure, Coil failure, wiring, injectors, fuel pump, and the list goes on and on and on. Does the Check Engine light come ON when this happens? Whenever the "Check Engine" light comes on, there is always a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) stored in the ECM (Engine Control Module). You'll need an OBDII (On-Board-Diagnostics) scanner to retrieve any codes recorded/set in ECM. Once you do this and let us know what, if any codes are set, then we can go from there. If not, then take/tow the vehicle into a Hyundai Service Center (dealership), pay the diagnostic fee. They will tell you EXACTLY what the problem is and what's needed to fix it (parts, labor, tax, time-frame, etc.).

The cam chains have developed slack and are slapping on the cam chain guides which helps prevent the cam chains from popping off in case of slack developing . The chain guides are made of some type of plastic material and develop significant wear.
