1998 corvette water temp get up to 225 to 230 befor fan come on. where are the cooling fan control sencors located, not the relays

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

If they haven't messed with a working design, the sensor should be on the intake manifold near or on the thermostat housing. Chances are it could be out of range and delaying the fan

Fan wires go to relay, than after relay, they go to engine temperature sensor located on the side of the block. There is another sensor usually attached to thermostat housing. This would be coolant temp sensor. You can test both sensors with an ohmmeter or multi-meter

The computer will not command the fans to come on until the coolant temperature reaches about 230 degrees. I thought I had this same problem when I purchased my C5. Upon further investigation and diagnosis, it turns out that they were functioning as designed. Check out theory and operation of the system before spending unnecessary time and money!

My cooling fan will not turn on. What could this be? I had someone tell me the water pump, but it does not leak.

Step 1:

This cooling fan circuit has 2 cooling fans and 2 cooling fan relays, both cooling fan relays are located in the BJB (battery junction box, underhood fuse box) there is a low speed or main cooling fan relay in cavity location # K-46 and the high speed relay is location # K-47! Also check the main cooling fan power fuse # 2 in the same BJB, The fuse is a MAXI-FUSE (large one) it is blue in color and is rated at 60amps!

Step 2:

Also check the coolent tempature sensor thats what signals the fan to turn on.

Step 3:

Do the fans turn on when you turn the a/c on. if not may have bad fan motor

Radiator fan will not turn off ever.

the usual culprit is a bad relay. Some cars have 2 or 3 cooling fsan relays, usually under the hood in a fuse/relay box. Look in owner manual for fuse/relay locations and pull the cooling fan relays one at a time & see if it cuts off. That could be the bad one. The engine computer usually controls the fan motor based on input from the coolabnt temp sensor or by when you have the heater controls set on a/c or defrost modes.

I have a 92 corvette and I have power at the cooling fan relays, but I cann,t get power to the fans. Also the inside heating & air fan doesn,t work either.

mcdevito75 here, At the relays wiggle the wires to see for loose connection, also see if you can jump the fan direct to the battery to see if the fan works., Also the fan relay could be bad, or the temp. Between the relays and fan there is a temp sensor that puts the fan on, jump that and see if the fan works.

198 mercury sable cooling fans motor

Cooling fans ( on radiator ) only come on when the engine reaches a certain (hot) temprature. There is a temp sensor threaded into the radiator end reservoir that switches a relay off and on that runs the fans. Either the temp sensor or the relay is probably bad. Normally , those fans will not be on if the car is moving , the air flow from just driving is sufficient to cool the rad. If you stopped and idled for a while , eventually the rad would heat up enough for the fans to come on.

Cooling fans dont engage! 1998 oldsmobile silhouette!

Your Problem Can VERY WELL BE with the Temp Sensor, As It Is the First in This Electrucal Circut . it Waits for 210-230 Degree Engine temp and Gives that Sygnal to the ECM then ECM Grounds out the Cooling FAN RELAY To Turn ON the FANS and the Temp Sensor is Usualy THE #1 Culpret Closley in front of the RELAY.
There are 2 Sensors On this Vehicle The One You Replaced and One Located At Trans Side of
Engine Closer to Front of Vehicle At the Head ,Thereis a 2 wire Plug On it and This Sensor Goes to the ECT witch CONTROLS COOLING FAN RELAY. Hope this Helps and if you Need A Diagram For this It Must be Emailed as FixYa Does NOT Support Large Picture Files. My Email Add. Is MY

Cooling fan wont work

The water temp sensor is located near the thermostat housing. This sensor is what tells the ECM to turn the fan on/off. The water temp sending unit is located near the same area. You know you have the correct sensor is because the water temp sensor has a 2 prong plug. The water temp sending unit only has 1 prong.

Where is the fan relay switch and the fan cooling sencor on a 98 grand am

Fan usually comes on within 200 degrees. Could be less. Usually the relay switch is under the engine from the front. get under the car and look for a silver switch right by where the electrical wires hook up with the fan.
