Not as easy as you think. Manufacturers put out many variations within a model year those days. AutoZone lists vacuum diagrams for Mercury products, but by engine size, not model. There are 26 different configurations for the 5.0 liter engine in 1985. Some would be for Federal models, other for California models. Having certain o0ptions change the diagrams as well. The under hood label for the vacuum diagrams usually has a three letter identification symbol that (example: CAY) that specifies the exact diagram used. If you can find the label or the code we can better help you.
The field wire to the starter has a small eyelet connector that connects to the small terminal on the starter solenoid (sometimes marked "S").
All other wires have a large eyelet connector and they are all connected together with the battery cable to the large terminal on the starter solenoid (sometimes marked "BAT").
Sometimes the field wire to the starter is a push on type connector, and there would only be one obvious terminal on the starter solenoid that it could be connected to.
