Engine rattle noise when decelerating at any speed in any gear. Noise disappears upon giving more gas.

Hi,
If I understand your concern, you have backfiring when decelerating, if yes, a possibility is that your air/fuel ratio is too lean, there is too much air and/or too little fuel. This could also be brought about by using free breathing air filter (such as K & N) instead of the original air box/filter and no re-jetting/re-calibration done. Either that or the exhaust system has been modified or replaced with free flow, headers or sport tuned. If yes, then either the carbs have not been re-jet or the injector has not been re-calibrated. It may also require re-mapping of the ECU.
Depressing the clutch when decelerating disengages the load and therefore no engine breaking is happening.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
Thank you for using FixYa.

4th gear is a staight through gear thats why it doesnt make noise. sounds like you are about to lose all gears except 4th. this is common on toyotas when the rear seal on the tranny goes out which causes the tranny to basically pump out the tranny fluid. without fluid or a low level the gears slowly grind away all exept 4th. a rebuilt 5sp is not that expensive on ebay.check the fluid, if it is real low its too late, replace the tranny.

rattling noise from front, first rule out any loose heath shield check exhaust system, and also your engine mounts when given gas your engine shifs under torque and when you let off the gas to shift engine moves back(no load, torque) if loose or broken mounts may cause interierence on moving parts(binding). do this firts good luck
