1991 Chev 2500 2WD PU with 350 (77000 actual) that starts fine, idles fine. Able to rev engine when cold with no issue. Can go a short distance ok, but once the engine warms up, it acts like it's either not getting gas. Truck "chugs", backfires slightly. Also the engine will cut-out at stop signs. Can start ok, but have to rev engine slightly in neutral and drop into drive. The fuel fileter was replaced last year. The truck has a full tank of gas - filled up at a "reputable" station. Could this be water in the gas? If so, would I need to drain the tank and start over with new gas?
Thanks
This problem can be several things. When your engine is cold, your computer is in a "closed loop" and just pretty much keeps the engine running until warmed up. After reaching operation temperature, the computer starts reading all the sensors. If one sensor is not connected or is defective, you will experience performance problems. Most of the time this will turn on the check engine light, but not always. Second is the fuel pump. This too will cause erratic engine problems.
