I have a 2000 Dodge Van 1/2 ton with a 318 motor and a 46RE trans with 80,000 miles on it. I have owned the van since it had 47,000 on it.
I had a reliable transmission shop put in a Trans Go shift kit recommended for diesel (TFOD-Diesel) and it improved the shifting. The reason I did this is so that I could get longer life out of the transmission and pull a 5000 lb trailer. A few days after the installation the transmission light came on. It sensed too high a pressure and gave an error code. The pressure sensor was replaced but to no avail. Then the pressure was reduced. The gauge showed the pressures in the correct range. That didn't fix the problem, either. Every few days the transmission light comes on, usually when going up a hill (we always take it out of overdrive). The code is always over pressure sensed. Also, when the transmission light is on it refuses to manually shift into low. We have a couple of steep hills to get to our house and we want it in low to go down the hill. Stopping the vehicle does not get it into low gear. The only way I can get it in low gear is to stop, put it in park, step on the brake and gas at the same time (not very much gas) and put it in low. When the trans light has been reset putting it in low is no problem.
Sounds like either the range sensor is not properly adjusted or the kick down cable is not adjusted right. If the cable is not adjusted right early failure of the trans will happen. So if you can have them scan the van and see if the range selector which tells what gear its in is right and make sure the drown shift cable is adjusted right because thats what controls your shift pattern and controls and pressure to the trans.I hope that this helps you.Have a great day..

SOURCE: my book calls for 47-51 ft lb but the bolts are
Either you will have to leave at 42 lbs, or new bolts will have to be inserted. You can also use a product called locktite that will hold the nut in place at 42 lbs.

well start by checking the coolant level it may be low,if it is then check for coolant leak, if coolant is full then bad news, ive done a few of these with overheating and no heat, they had bad head gaskets, if coolant is full have a block test done, this will confrim the gasket problem, also dont drive could cause converter and o2 sensor damage. good luck.
