1992 Dodge 250 van, 318 V-8, Automatic Trans... Starts up and idles great. Put it in gear and drive down the road to a stop sign and when the van is almost to a complete stop it just dies. Restarts fine. Happens when slowing down for a turn or when coming to a stop. When you shift it between Park, Reverse, Neutral, and Drive it will stumble and almost die out but returns to idle. No stored codes and check engine light is not on. Previous owner said he put STP Fuel Treatment in the tank with every fill up and cured the problem. I have filled up 5 times without the STP and now I have these issues. I don't want a temporary fix, I want to replace the faulty part.
I cannot see how adding a fuel additive would help to be honest. I would be looking for a split or leaking vacuum line, I have even seen a leaking evap canister before that caused a similar problem. Does the engine pull clean and strong when it is warm or at cruising speeds? Does it feel like its running lean or misfiring?

Seems to run fine at all speeds. Adding STP made no sense to me either, thats why I didnt use it. Gas mileage is pretty good. I have hooked my snap-on mt2500 scanner to it and it doesnt show anything out of whack. My wife just aquired this van 2000 miles ago so and it supposedly had a full mechanical inspection done so I haven't really looked it over yet. It does seem to shift hard sometimes and at others just fall into gear. Not sure if that is related at all. A doughnut gasket on the exhaust (passenger side) desintigrated about 2 weeks ago but the stalling problem didnt start until about a week after. Studs are kind of rusty so I am putting off replacing it until I have the time to replace studs which I am sure are going to break when I wrench on them
