My sisters 2006 Chrysler 300, will not go into gear. car ran fine yesterday, went out to leave to go to work this morning, it would not shift out of park,no lights came on to indicate there was a problem, any ideas???? also wondering if there is a way to check for fault codes, the fast doing the key switch 3 times, does not work for this car
(also wondering if there is a way to check for fault codes, the fast doing the key switch 3 times, does not work for this car ) , The only other way to check DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes would be to hook up a scan tool .You could have a problem with the shift interlock ,this is a electronically or electrically controlled safety system that prevents the gear selector from moving out of park unless the drivers foot is pressing the brake pedal . Is this vehicle's shifter located on the or in the center console ? Should have a plug somewhere there on the console that comes out , stick a thin screw drive down in an the gear shifter should be able to go into gear . This safety system is most likely controlled by the BCM - body control module . There is a solenoid inside shifter assembly that locks it in gear .
If the shifter is on the column remove plastic cover there is a small metal bar that moves it needs some grease or wd 40 on it

check to see if the brake lights come on it may be a problem with a brake switch under the dash not letting the shift lock release. there may be a seperate switch just for it so check and see it there is two switches touching the brake pedal lever if the brake lights come on.
