When I have the key in the ignition, the panel lights come on, glow plug light cycles but when I go to turn it over ... Nothing. Same thing happens when I'm getting a jump. With the key in the on position, I can get it to turn over by arcing across the two terminals on the starter solenoid. Turns over strong but doesn't start. Like there's no fuel. The truck has been sitting for a few days but I don't know of any fuel leak that might have created air in the lines. Not sure if there is a way to prime the fuel system to make sure it is getting fuel and also don't understand why the key is not turning it over. If I can turn it over at the solenoid, doesn't that mean there is electricity flowing? Please help, I've got to move this by Friday and I'd rather not have it towed. Thanks.

the starter should be replaced. The solenoid is kikcing the pinion out but there is no contact being made to turn the starter motor. I have the exact same truck and before i changed the starter used the old starter tap trick. Tap the starter casing with a hammer and it should start turning again. hope this was helpful for you. Good luck.

SOURCE: My 99 Expedition just died while driving. After

I has an 86 Mustang that did a similar thing and it turned out that the battery actually shorted out. This happens when one of the plates inside the battery brakes off and then touches another plate. When mine died it was like I turned the iginition off. It wouldn't turn over even with jumper cables.

SOURCE: glow plug system will not cycle

Do you have dual fuel tanks? Place the return fuel line from the back of the fuel pump in a bucket and see if it will start. If yes replace the fuel tank switching valve. It may switch supply side ok, but not return side and if so it is plugging the return, which will cause a no start stuation. If it starts running the return line into a bucket replace the switching valve.

Had a problem like this before and it was the computer..But you could faintly smell something like burnt wires..The computer should be down by the kick panel on the driverside..See if you smell anything on that side

2012. What should I check if the battery is connected and I get no power to the car?

Sounds like the battery is flat. Have someone stand in front of the vehicle. Put the headlights on and turn the ignition key. If the battery is flat nothing will happen and the lights won't light. If the battery is very low but has power, the headlights will turn to glow worms when the key is turned.

Other possibilities are an activated antitheft system, or a faulty ignition switch. There is also a MAIN FUSE on the positive battery lead!

Only thing it could have been in the first place is the wire from the switch to the starter is disconnected from the starter. Even a new switch won't fix that. Just get under the car and plug the wire back onto the spade connector.

Vw jetta glx vr6 key turns in ignition, but nothing happens

The first thing I would check is the starter motor fuse and relay, but the lights staying on is weird. Perhaps the ignition key switch is defective. That could be caused by many things including wear and tear / moisture / insects, especially if the car is old and you are living in a warm and humid climate.

By boeinga1 on Nov 17, 2010 2001 VW Diesel Golf TDI. Car started no problem. Drove to gas station. Stopped for gas. glow plug light wouldn't come on, engine wouldn't start, engine turning but not starting....

i think glow plug replacement needed. ever used starting fluid in cold to start?try this, next time no start, cycle your key and let the light come on, wait till it goes off, turn key again until light goes off, if you have to do this more than 3 times, and it runs fine, replace the glow plugs only then. thank you for choosing fixya.com!
