Is it a TDI? if so you may have fuel issues or possibly a turbo issue check and make sure all your hose connections from your turbo to the air to air cooler and air cooler to engine are hooked up also make sure there are no holes or cracks in your air to air cooler. check your air filter. Black smoke indicates you ar buring fuel too much fuel not enouph air in the combustion chamber.

1994 Ford Ranger low power

Ok, it sounds as though your fuel pressure regulator or injector lines or injectors are leaking. What engine is in the vehicle? Is the engine light flashing? Does it start hard and blow smoke on startup?

2001 chevy prizm jerks when in gear heavy smoke out of exghuast

It will help Matt if you would have said what color the smoke is thats coming out the tailpipe. White heavy smoke will be antifreeze getting in the combustion chamber.Could be head gasket, cracked or warped head.Black smoke would be fuel system pumping gas in making it run rich,And not able to burn the fuel completly.

Landrover frelanderTD4 2005 start jerking and black smoke, seems like electronic failure on turbo

You need to have the electronic engine control system scanned for fault codes, that is the very 1st step in diagnosis of this problem.
