My toyota camry 1999 model emits black smoke and jerks when in traffic.INFACT it gets to a point that the engine goes off.i have changed the fuel pump, serviced the injector, changed different electrical switch. Now they are saying ,the brainbox is weak.Am not sure if that is the problem. Is it really the problem.

Black smoke indicates running "rich" (using excessive fuel) sounds like an injector is sticking open. I would first run a strong fuel system cleaner through it. (Maybe even have a professional fuel system cleaning) Ques? When was last tune up? A dirty air filter would contribute, but not make alot of black smoke.

You have three things to check
Firstly, check all the vacuum lines going from the motor to the firewall, these cause the motor to vibrate violently at idle position because some times they become loose.
Secondly, check the throttle body, there is a buy pass valve that gets so gummed that it will stick in the open position and there will be no power (no turbo boost) some times you can just lightly tap it and it will close(you will see it close).
Thirdly and lastly, check the tubing going to the inter cooler, it's very low to the ground and very easy to knock loose when you run over some thing.

white smoke is water in the combustion ,this means head gaskets and as this vehicle is so old 1991 then it may not be a economic repair ,1991 PETROL V6 even if its running well with a years inspection ticket its only worth 500 euros max and thats a it so is it worth repairing now a diesel manual version would be worth repairing providing it wasnt rusty underneath but this car is just too old to bother with
