I have a 2005 Cadillac Deville. The glove box door flaps down when I open the latch (the latch works). There is a little string thing on the right hand side that I am assuming attaches to something to slow down the door and keep the door from falling. How do I attach/reattach the string so the door doesn't fall down? Currently the string is on the door with a loop on the end of it...
Look up inside the right or left side of the dash where the glove box closes. There should be a screw that holds stop your talking about. Re attatch it. Unscrew the screw. If broke then use a small nylon strap n secure it to that screw n to the place on the inside of the glove box door.
Edward...thank you for taking the time to answer my question. The inside of the glove box is smooth. There are no visible screws for the string "loop" to attach to. It seems as if there is a hole in the face of the glove box trim right in position where the string loop should be "hooked" to something. Do I have to remove the glove box to poke the string throught the hold to find the screw to hook it? Yowsa. How would I do that?

SOURCE: 1991 Cadillac Deville - fuel door broken
hi cindy from the uk am i correct in thinking that the actual fuel filler door is ok? but the catch that it closes onto is worne/broken? therefor you have the door open at random ? i would think you can buy this catch seperately ? but as you mention a button in glove box opens this door ? is it electrical ? or a manual ie cable pull or push ? if electrical operated? opening then no problem of draining battery once button released however i would check up on cost of this part you req and availability first ? may i offer a temporary solution for now? if you visit local hardware store? and look at the possibility of using a kitchen unit door magnet? that you could stick using back to back tape ? on the door and other part on inside of cove that has filler pipe ? im sure that with a little imagination you could do it ? and for time being no one will know ? and not be tempted to siphon fuel from your tank having seen door is not locked ? i have done this repair on uk cars and works fine as for car battery ? not holding charge? best advice is pop along to local car store / garage ? and ask them if they could check/test battery condition ? it only takes 2 minutes ! and not usually a fee here in uk it is tested for free if your battery is old? it may have one or more cells deteriated with age and so not holdin charge if test prove battery is defect? may i suggest you shop around for best offers also surf the e bay ? hope this helps and inspires you? and wish you luck
SOURCE: deville 98 glove box is jammed not locked??
If you hang upside down and look up under the glove box there may be access to reach up behind the door, small hands may be a help here, but comprehension on removeing what may be jammed is a different story.
SOURCE: My glove box handle of my 2002 Cadillac DHS has broken
use a flat head screw driver and there is a pin that slides sideways. slide it towards the driver side while u pull. my car did that and i got it open. :)

Would like the solution as well. Dealer says it has to be drilled out.
Grabbing the squarish "loop" under the handle down and away using needle nose pliers doesn't unlock the door
SOURCE: Glove box will not open
you will be causing further damage no matter what. you will have to pry the door open or break the lock assembly out of the glove box door. be carefull to only damage the door because repairing the dash is a lot harder and more expensive. obtain a new glove box door and latch and you will have to get a copy of the door key or have the lock re-keyed to use the lock again.
